Hi all...

I'm looking for an educated opinion on an upcoming Strat purchase.

I've been playing (poorly!!!) for about 25yrs., and currently own 4 guitars - a mutt Warmoth Strat-style made by yours truly in the mid-80's, an '05 Mexican Tele (sunburst), an '06 Epiphone Les Paul Custom (beautiful Silverburst finish), and an older black Fender Stratacoustic (year unknown). I wish I still had my Reissue '57 Strat in Lake Placid Blue, but trading it for a brand new Randall 100w 1/2 stack seemed a sensible decision in 1988! Please don't lecture - I lecture myself every day.

With age, comes a little more disposable income. As such, I've decided to expand my small collectiion of solid body electric guitars. To my question:

I am currently considering buying one of the following four guitars as my next addition. They are (with prices in Canadian dollars, and in no order of preferance):

'07 Vintage Hot Rod '57 Strat ($1900 CDN)
'07 American Vintage 1957 Commemorative Strat ($1900 CDN)
'06 60th Anniversary Strat (Sunburst) ($1300 CDN)
'06 LEFTY 60th Anniversary Strat (Sunburst) ($1100 CDN) - I am a right-handed player, but a dealer near me has 1 brand new one left for $200 off what they asked in '06 - perhaps an investment/resale instrument?

I would welcome any and all opinions and advice on the collectibility and/or potential future value of these Strats. Thanks in advance...

John

That would be my vote. And shame on you for letting that LPB go

vintage hot rod 57' would be my pic of the litter. Has the best of the new and old. No lefty for sure, 200 dollars is no bargain if you can't play it.

If you want the sound and quality of a $5.000.00 custom shop strat. I suggest you look into purchasing an Eric Johnson signature Strat. This guitar sounds waaayyyy better than any Custom Shop strat I have played or heard and I only spent $1,350.00 at the Guitar Center for it.

^ i understand you love your EJ strat by your name, but he has a price range it seems, and that guitar, while very nice, is out of it, so try and help him by suggesting one on the list and not just posting about an EJ strat in every thread

I'm confused about how the "price range is out of it"? I may be mistaken, but 1,350.00 for an EJ is a bit lower in price than the 07 Vintage Hot Rod 57. And also the 07 American Vintage 1957 Commemorative that are both listed for 1,900.00. ?

Thank you all for your input. The decision has been made & I'm currently awaiting delivery of the Vintage '57 Commemorative Strat. It plays beautifully and looks amazing. I figured I better jump on one as they are a limited edition. The '57 Vintage Hot Rod will probably be the next contestant. All I need to do now is figure out how I'll explain it to my wife... after guitar #4 was purchased, she started counting them...

Thanks again for all who offered their advice. Will post pics when I get it.

John
