Hello...new to forum, new to guitar, and new to strat.

I purchased a MIM standard HSS strat from guitar center. This is my first electric guitar and I am dedicated to learn and love to play.

If you have been into a guitar center you know how loud and distracting it can be so I may have misunderstood the salesperson.

I asked him what would he choose in the $500 range and he picked up one particualr guitar.

It is a made in mexico standard strat hss (double pickup in back). I held it and it really felt good. I asked him why this strat over some of the others in this range. I swear I heard him say it was a limited run or something like that. He said it is ash wood, that is why it is heavier than others, and it is. The usual MIM standard is made of Alder and he felt that Ash made for a better tone. It is also the sienna sunburst color with a brown marbled(may not be proper name for color of pick guard) pick guard.

Long story short...I purchased the guitar and a 15W line six amp and went home to begin my new hobby.

Later I logged onto the fender website and I can not find this combination anywhere on the fender website or on the internet so far.

Angain the combination is supposedly, MIM Standard HSS Strat, Sienna Sunburst, Rose Wood finger board, with an Ash body, with brown marbled pick guard.

Can somebody please help me verify this or find some information about it? Is it a new model...is it an old model (the guitar is new..not used), is it a limited run...is it discontinued???

Thank you for helping out this Novice.

Shane

Thanks for the info on the pickguard.

What will the full serial number tell?

Can I call fender with it and can they give me the specifics?

BTW...I'm not asking these questions because I think this is some super special intrument...I just find it curious that it is a little different.

Thanks again for any help the forum can provide.

OKay..I have my answer.

I was able to contact the sales person I worked with at Guitar Center.

The guitar is an MIM Standard Strat HSS with Ash body, Sienna Sunburst finish, and a tortise pickguard. He believes it was a batch the GC ordered from Fender with that combination.

Of course it does not make it more valuable just a "little" more unique.
Bottom line is the only difference betrween the normal std hss is the Ash Body, and the sienna finish.

I will try to post pics later.
Thanks for the help.
God Bless,
Shane

Yah that's good, and by the way FSR is Factory Special Run ... that's what these guitars are called when they have something different than the regular models, yours has an ash body which and the pickguard ... nice guitar congrats ! :)

It seems as tho Fender supplies different guitar retailers(Guitar Center, Sam Ash, Musicians Friend) with unique guitars on occasion. It may have features common to the line, but in different combinations. I don't know if they are considered FSR or not, but they may be unique to that retailer. I recall the 48th St Stratocaster as an example. There was also a gold Strat sold by Musicians Friend I had never seen anywhere else.
Is anyone familiar with this idea????

Finally someone else bought this guitar. I bought the same guitar and after a few upgrades it is my main axe. take my advice; looking tuners, Callahan tremelo upgrade and Fat 50s have turned my guitar into a players dream perfect for getting thouse Hendrix, fruiciante, and mayer tons. I also bought the FSR in natural finish and swapped the PUs out for SD alnico 2 pro PUs. The only thing i didnt like were the origional pickups in these guitars.

guitar center will get things like this one with unique color or wood combinations but i'm not familiar with what stores get what and all the details. here is the 48th street mentioned above http://www.samash.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... rySA-10001.
i know wildwood guitars gets the "wildwood 10s" but these are more custom shop than what we're talking about here. http://wildwoodguitars.com/electrics/fender/10s/

Fender does produce "factory special runs" for different retailers, music merchandising, and trade associations. Typically they will put an additional sticker on the back of the headstock indicating it as a special edition. It does not necessarily increase the value of the instrument. They will use stock production parts but in combinations not normally offered in standard production guitars.

Earlier this summer I recall a very excited new Strat owner who purchased a VG Strat from Guitar Center that was billed as a VG deluxe made only for Guitar Center in Sienna Burst. It had all the features of an American Deluxe with the addition of the VG hardware. You can find all makes and models with the FSR designation on Ebay, Craig's List et al...

Note to self: I think I graduated to Amateur staus with this post YEEHAA!!

Hey Guys
I just bought this strat last Saturday at GC and it seems to very nice. the Price was right 400 bucks out here in Illinois. The action needs to get adjusted, it is set way to Hi and I don't like the Humbucker sound. It is way to bright. Does anybody have any suggestions of some great pick ups I can use for this strat? It is a HSS. I play BLues, Classic Rock and a little bit of Metal. What is the best pickup to use for Lead Guitar?? Thanks
