I've been tinkering with the idea of finding myself a 12-string Strat. Do any of you out there own one and could possibly tell me if they are good, bad, or worth it, please.

I love mine. Different sound from my Ric, and IMO easier to play. Of course it is a 12 so theere are the usual which-one-of-12-strings-is-out-of-tune issues but I have 4 12 stirngs (2 acousitc, a Ric 360/12 and the Strat) and it's my favorite 12. In fact it's #2 on my guitar list behind the 6 sting Strat! Can't go wrong with one if you're looking for a 12. BTW, they're MIJ and the build quality is superb!

Hey flying. Would you do me a favor? What is the width of the neck down by the neck pocket? I'm wondering if it's the standard Strat neck size.

I'm asking with the idea of possibly putting one of those necks on this:

Measured right at the joint beteween the neck and the body (without removing the neck) I got 55mm or about 2 5/32 inches. I used a straight edge on the sides of the neck to make sure things were lined up so it's reasonably accurate.

Why, Orville, then you'll have an 18 string Strat!

"And she's building a stairway to - " And I thought it was Gilmour's double-neck moments you were more interested in...

thanks flying ... that sounds like the standard size

I am just toying with the idea of turning it into a 12/6 ... yes, an 18 string beast! I don't suppose those XII necks come in a one piece maple version?

Warmoth makes a Strat-sized 12-string neck - it doesn't look quite like Fender's, but it's Strat-compatible.

$157 for a maple neck with maple fretboard, unfinished.
