I have been a member of the forum since March 08 but have admittedly been lurking. After reading many, many posts it became clear to me that this is indeed a place of Strat worship, so I thought I should introduce myself properly.
I'm probably a old man in comparison with some of the other members here. I have had the privilidge of owning three Fenders in my life, 2 Strats and my first, a cherry red 1969 Jaguar that I bought for $100.00 back in 1972. Never did figure out how to work that thing. I played through a 1967 Dual Reverb that sounded fantastic right about the time it started smoking. So my friends I knew to shut it down, let it cool off, and go at it again. Young and stupid, yes we were.

My first Strat was a 1978 vintage that was pure black right off the rack. Pickguard, body, and had a rosewood neck. I thought I heard the angels sing when I first laid eyes on it. In between the Jag and the Strat I purchased a 1977 blonde on blonde Gibson SG standard. Loved the color but hated the guitar. Traded it and $200.00 at a guitar shop for that Strat and never looked back. To actually own a Strat had been my life's dream. And now I actually owned one... but only for a very short time.

Over a period of a year, my income had slowly declined to the point that my finances were in total chaos, and it came down to walking or selling my Strat to make a car payment. Believe me, there was no other choice. I parted with it and have missed it every day for nearly 20 years. I'm sure everyone would agree that your first Strat is like your first love, maybe better for some folks. Anyway, fast-forward to March of 2008 and through a very fortunate series of events, I was now able to purchase another. I wasn't imagining things back then. There really is something special about a Strat. I bought a black American Standard with the H/S/S configuration. Just recently I changed out the pickups for the Vintage Noiseless with a black Fender pickguard and was so happy I did. The H/S/S just didn't give me the Strat sound I remembered. Playing through my MG10 Marshall (love that little amp) brought back great memories of youth and that first Strat. Maybe you can go home again.

Welcome back to the forums, fellow Strathead! :D

Its great to have that nostalgic feeling. I wish I could, but I've only been playing a year (and I've really realized how bad I am). :?

Welcome back to playing and to the Forum.

I played for almost 8 years, then I joined the Army. Without planning to I took a little 9 year hiatus from playing, although I always had a guitar in the house I just never seemed to have the time. After I got out of the Army I picked it up again. Now I have been playing for another 6 years and I remember the feeling you mentioned when I restarted, "Home" is how I felt when I started to play again.

Thanks for evoking the memories of my first Strat and how I felt. I just got a new Strat for Christmas and have been making new memories; in doing so I forgot how great the first one was…… :D
