still going for a custom shop 60s strat with the v neck. if you're gonna go with the relic look, might as well as do it right with the custom shop.

I think these are great alternative for those who want the relic look and don't have 3,000+ to spend on a guitar

Ok, I have to ask- Musicians Friend sells "shop soiled" and seconds at good reduced rates- so why such a premium on mim thats more expensive than an Am-Standard?

Maybe they should put a premium on the shop soiled am vintage series?- or how about soiled road worn guitars? Id still rather buy a sparkly new am.standard- you have a guitar for life and also one that will have resale should your grandkids look after it...

It's like when I asked my mom about what were weeds in her yard. She said weeds were any plant that were growing where they weren't supposed to be growing were weeds.

All i can say is check out the new American Standard guitars. They are much better thn the American Series. They sound better and they are light as a feather, plus they come with a really nice case. The road worn you are paying 950 for a 60 series guitar with a gig bag for 950.Sounds high to me.If i buy a guitar for 950,i get a hard shell case ,thats all there is to it.

It May be just me, but I don’t get the whole road worn thing….Some guys like them and that’s cool; to each is own…personally I don’t need to pay a custom shop extra to make it look like I have been a Road Warrior for the last 30 years or something..I happen to like my Guitars shiny/ clean and new looking…the gig scares and wear I do have all have their own story. That is the tapestry of the life of my guitars. To pay someone else to do it just feels fake to me somehow…If you want it worn; pack up the van and start playing clubs and bars. It’s much more fun that way.

They look great, and extremely cool! I'm not a relic lover personally, but these look nice.

Wonder what this is going to do to the custom shop relics resale value. Now that these are available cheap compared to 3k for a CS relic. I realize that its a lot of extra work to relic a guitar but 950 is a bit much for a MIM. Resale value for MIM guitars is low. If you bought a new road worn for 950 today I wouldnt give you 500 for it tomorrow.

Yup. I recently bought a guitar for >$1000 that came with neither case nor gig bag, as that's apparently policy for that manufacturer. Though, the sales guy threw in a chorus pedal to seal the deal, since he realized that was pretty lame.

FWIW, it was a really, really good guitar, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it!

I wonder if now there will be a way to purchase 'reliced' pickguards and hardware from Fender now that they are being produced on a production line. Hmm. Could really spruce up the looks of my '62. The lacquer is really wearing nicely now so it would be cool to have the other parts match.

i agree!

american standard wud be much better choice for me.

companys do it all the time. its a gimmik, a gimmik that will work.

theres a big vibe now for rellic/worn guitars, i think if you want a relic guitar you should have to pay big bucks for it. it should be a long careful skillful delicate job, done by skilled folk. i think when they put that down to a production line at there supposedly less supirior factory, its just proffiteering really! they look good tho, hmmm put me down for one!!! :D

Considering that a real 50s or 60s strat, even in relic'd form, will cost you about 25k and considering that a new Custom Shop relic'd guitar will cost you around 5k, I think that paying $950 for what seems to be a high quality guitar with decent pickups isn't asking too much. I know there's the argument of buying a $400 MIM Standard and relicing it yourself, but I know I personally couldn't make it look as good or convincing. Mine would look like a kid with a sander did it, because a kid with a sander really did do it.
I used to freak out every time my guitar would get a little tiny dent or scratch in it, and I got sick of it and resigned to the fact that that's just what happens. If you like shiny new guitars that's fine with me. That's the way my Dad is and unfortunately that means I'm always scared to death to play any of his basses. That's why I have my own, and it's already got a quarter sized crater in it where it got hit with something and where the paint is chipping off. Needless to say Dad freaked out, even though it was my bass.
Plus if you're guitar is perfect and you're scared to death to scratch it you'll never be able to play Third Stone From The Sun like SRV did.
