I got a Starcaster for Christmas from Target. I think that the only difference between a Starcaster Strat and a normal Stratocaster is that the Starcaster is made with cheaper electronics, which makes it not as expensive as the normal Stratocaster. From what I understand the Starcaster is an entry-level Stratocaster guitar.

Everything is different (I believe). My younger brother has a starcaster and it is much lighter than my MIM due to the wood used for the body.
1) The wood that was used to make the body.
2) The wood that is used to make the neck and headstock.
3) ALL of the hardware from keys to tuners.
4) The electronics including pickups.
5) Pickguard.

Overall though, you are right. It is a good entry level guitar.

The body doesn't have very deep contours either.
Also the frets are not rolled on the edges, so they feel very rough.
I'm not sure there is any finish on the neck. It looked like raw wood to me.

Everything on the Starcaster is cheaper from the wood to the pickups, wiring, frets, and all the other hardware, right on through to the manufacturing. It's like the difference between a genuine hand-made samurai sword and the stuff you see on the Home Shopping Network.

No offense meant to any Starcaster owners; if you got one you like that feels and sounds good; power to ya. But in general if you LIKE a Starcaster you'll LOVE a Stratocaster.

As ther rest have said, the Starcaster is a good place to START. If you keep playing, upgrade to a proper Strat and you will feel, hear, and see the difference.

Hey Stratheads,

I bought my son a Starcaster for his birthday. For a starter guitar it is a good choice. Remember that one of the best things about Strats is that you can Mod them. I'm giving my son my old stock MiM pickups and then upgrading his hardware. So...for an additional $200.00 bucks or so he is going to have a pretty kick $@! guitar.

Congratulations on your new Starcaster- Have fun with it !

The Freeze
