Hi, nice song I just finished watching it.... I am no expert in the pickup world but I can easily get this similar sound with my EMG's I dont think its much about the pickups though I think it has to do more with the amp in this case since this is a clean setting.... I would get a nice tube amp and this sounds like hes using the neck middle position ...... by the way nice song :)

The sound on that video is a typical strat sound. This is that staccato banjo-sound that I can only get on a Strat, with single coil pickups. I can get that sound by using the pickup selector in the fourth position, and a clean amp channel. The solo uses a light distortion channel, perhaps by a switch on the amplifier. I don't think you wold need any special pickups for it; my Strat Ultra uses Lace sensors, but the 1971 Stratocaster is limited due to a three-way pickup selector.

I use a cheap eq pedal to shape my guitar sounds, sometimes. If i'm after a mid scoop or less volume on the bass or treble, without losing the fullness of it by adjusting it on the amp or guitar.

The danelectro is my favourite front end eq. Its only 7 band so its uncomplicated and it only boosts or cuts by 7 or 8 db. Ideal for going inbetween a guitar and amp. Its as cheap as chips and gives you pretty much every tone you want out of your guitar. Obviously its not spot on accurate but it gets you there for tones you only want once or twice every now and again.

He's using the second position (neck and middle pickups). The pedal he's using is called a Uni Vibe. You can get a reissue from Dunlop. That's all there is to it for the rhythm.

You'll need a tube amp for starters.

According to Fender, that is the fourth position, ( neck and middle PU's). See schematics and switching
