Actually I'd guess what you have what you have is a 2004 American Strat with a 50th anniversary neckplate. The 50th anniversary commemorative models were offered only in two tone burst. ( http://namm.harmony-central.com/WNAMM04 ... trats.html ) 2004 American Strats have been going for $750-$900 on Ebay.

The backplate covering the trem springs isn't vintage correct neither is the rosewood board or the 3 ply pickguard. They didnt come in till the 60's. The backplate was a 90's addition i think.

Could of been a factory mixup, it could of been a more sinister plot. Where did you buy the guitar from, was it sold as a anniversary model?

Could well be a factory mixup. Whatever it may or may not be, its a sweet looking guitar. Every strat should be red, including my wood finish one.

It is a nice guitar, and don't feel like it isnt... and by the way why would you be interested in finding out its value if you dont want to sell it? :)

2004 was the 50th anniversary of the Strat, so every Strat produced in 2004 was a "50th anniversary" guitar. The only ones designated by Fender as commemoratives were the 2 tone burst ones that were intorduced in January of 2004. Dealers have been pushing anything made in 2004 as "anniversary" strats to try to hype the value. They're great guitars, but they aren't limited production like the CS commemoratives or even th e production 2-tones, they're simply strats made during the 50th year of production.

This is my commemorative Am Dlx 50th in the correct case:

And here it is with my 2005 tele:

Question about the 2-tone Am Std anniversary's.

I have found several of these, but I have only found ones with Rosewood fretboards. I know this cannot be correct, especially since it is commemorating the 1954 model, which only had maple fretboards.

I guess my question is this, was a maple fretboard an option?

I would rather have that just because of what it represents, but I will probably get the one with rosewood that I am looking at now, and find a maple one later (if available). You can never have enough Strats...

There is always confusion about the "50th " anniversary Strats. There is a 50th anniversary of Fender the company in 1996? and the 50th of Stratocaster in 2004.

The 50th anniversary of Stratocaster in 2004 they produced two commorative models. The first and by far more expensive was a custom shop model limited to 2500 guitars made by special order only. The second is the 50th anniversay American deluxe model that you see pictured above. All were two tone sunburst with maple necks modeled after the 54 Strat. The Custom shop was the more authentic with the 8 hole one piece parchment pickguard, ashtray, and 3 way switch etc...
The American Deluxe came with the modern features of all Deluxes and a really nice case and all gold hardware.

They must have also put out some 04 American Standards with the 50th anniversary neckplate because I've seen alot of them being touted on Ebay. I've also seen some 04 serials without that same neckplate. I don't think they are any more valuable than a regular Strat but who knows what the future may bring? I never thought the 40th anniversary Strats would sell for as much as they're selling now.

I finally found what I was looking for. This should clear things up a bit.

For 2004, Fender made 3 guitars to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stratocaster.

1) A Custom Shop edition that sold for over $5000. It was a limited run and was as close as you could get to an actual '54.
2) An American Standard Deluxe, which is the one above with the gold hardware and the logo on the pickguard.
3) An American Standard.

#3 is the one I think most people are confused about. To be an actual 50th Anniv Am Std, it must have the following:

Ash body
2 tone sunburst
Maple neck and fretboard
1954 pickups
Parchment 1-ply pickguard with parchment knobs and pup covers
A 50th Anniversary neckplate
This model also came with the same tweed case with orange interior as the Deluxe pictured above

Apparently there were a lot of Strats sold in 2004 with the 50th Anniversary neckplate, but they are only true 50th Anniv Am Std's if they meet the above criteria.
