I'm gonna buy one either the CP 50's or JV Sig strat but as I haven't been able to find a JV to try I need a little help from those of you who either own or have played the above guitars.
I've looked at both closely and cosmetically they seem to be very similar, I've played the CP 50 and really like it, but I've also played a 60th anniversary strat (MIM) and really liked the tone of the Tex-Mex pickups.
I've also heard the JV has a really sweet neck, though both guitars are described as a 'soft' V shape, mind you so is the Baja Tele and the neck on it is way different from the CP 50, really like the neck on the Tele though.
Now I know the bridge is different on both but that is not an issue as I never use the tremolo bar, in fact it's never even attached..
I like the 2 tone sunburst in both guitars but have heard that the top is a veneer on the JV, anybody confirm that? and what's that actually mean in the long run?
All input gratefully received...

Comparing the specs here at the Fender site, it looks like the Jimmy Vaughan Strat is a 50's Players Strat with Different Pickups and slightly Modded Electronics. The Middle P-U is wide open (without tone control) instead of the bridge P-U.

The 50's Strat Players has the Locking Goto Tuners, which are better in theory, but I've never had any trouble with the Vinatge tuners on my Dleuxe Players Start, the Vaughan Strat has the same ones.

If you want a More Traditional Strat the 50's is it. If you want a little something different, The JV is Very Nice.

From what I saw on a show that showed how strats are made, any Mexican made strat that has a finish that you can see the wood grain (like sunburst) uses a verneer, so they'll both have it.

I don't know if this helps, but I had the same delima and chose the 50's player because of the locking tuners and two point trem.
I think the necks are exactly the same and honestly that the best feature of the guitar (Great Neck!).
The pickups on the JV are generally more desirable for most people, and I ended up upgrading mine to Dimarzio Area 58/61

If you don't use the Trem, it's going to be easier to block it in the JV strat for sure.

Hi Eddie, that's really useful information, cheers for that!
the CP 50 is significantly cheaper for me, so pickup upgrade later on is definitely an option if that's the only significant difference. I quite like the CP 50 standard sound anyway so that's good.
When you did upgrade what type of sound were you looking to achieve?

Cheers Kevin
