I just bought a "Fender Premium Acoustic Guitar Package" which says on the big box "Everything you need to START PLAYING NOW!" ... however, I don't see any tuning instructions in either the manuals or the sample teaching DVD.

My guess is that a guitar fresh out of the shipping package in a kit like this should be tuned first before jumping to a chords lesson. Am I missing something or is my thinking right here? Are there any "how to" tuning instructions on this web site or online?

Thanks for any help,
Tom

Thanks bluestube, great suggestion!

Guess what? I found out that the "Introduction" lesson on the DVD has a Tuning lesson, but at least on my DVD player, it drops back out to the menu at the transition from the first part of Introduction to the tuning part of Introduction. But if I fast forward through Introduction into the Tuning part of the introduction, I'm able to access the tuning lesson. It may be my DVD player and/or the DVD combination. I wanted to mention this since folks might be puzzled that I could not find what they know to be in the package.

I will check out youtube as well. Thanks for your help!

whilst on youtube make sure you get 'standard' or 'concert pitch' tuning. Dont go for 'open tunings' they are open chord tunings that it sounds to me like you are not ready for, yet.

Another good tuning solution is a tuning program that runs on your computer. I downloaded a great one that picks up your guitar through a webcam's microphone.

Here it is.http://www.guitar.sk/guitar/guitar_software.htm

All the best mate, happy new year.

Thanks nikininja, great suggestions as well. I will check out those programs. Yes, I'm just beginning so the basics are best, so I'll stay away from those tuning items you mentioned and stick with the standard tuning.

Have a great New Year as well.
