Hello Fellow Strat Fanatics,

For Christmas, my wife gave me my first Fender Stratocaster. However, when I opened the box, I was a little disappointed to discover that it it was a Budget Strat, made in Mexico and the guitar only had one pickup. A humbucker in the bridge position. It looks a little odd having only one pickup and the space where two single coils go being empty. At any rate, I am very pleased with the way it plays and sounds!
I don't really have any issues with it. I just thought I'd share my positive first experience(s) owning a Strat with y'all!!

HAPPY MUSIC MAKING & HAPPY NEW YEAR !!

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the, "Strat Owners Club"!

That particular Stratocaster of your's may not be at the top of the pecking order as far as Stratocasters go but it is FAR from a dud. As you've stated, you are essentially pleased with it all around and that's the main thing. Besides, in time, it would be no capital project for you to change the pickguard and pickup configuration. ENJOY!

And likewise, happy music making and a happy new year to you too!!

Welcome
A strat is always a well received gift. Never fear, Mexican strats are well built guitars with good quality. Post a pic of that new guitar. :P

That model is called the straight six strat if I am not mistaken... and it is a cool guitar with onnly one pickup but you can eventually buy the pickups you want and just switch the pickguard .... congrats :)

One of my guitars is a Mexican Strat.......and I use it all the time. It's my "workhorse".

MIM's are far from a budget Fenders. You could have done worse like a Starcaster from Sam's club, or Squire Bullet. The Straight 6 is a good starter Stratocaster. In fact ther is one person who mods his guitars to that type on purpose. The route job under the pick guard should be a HSH or HSS configration which means that you shouldn't have to cut you body up to add pick-ups (pups). You can add what ever pups you want to your guitar. A true moddifier's dream. Hope you have fun with it.
