I been bumping around the forum here, reading the archive, and I see where the term "blocking the trem" is suggested to help tuning problems. I do not have tuning problems, but do not use the tremolo either. How would I block my tremolo, to make it a hard tail, or should I just buy a fixed bridge? Thanks, BF

Put five springs in the trem. Tighten the spring claw screws until the bridge comes down against the body. Take a piece of tapered wood and slide it behind the trem block. This helps transmit sustain from the block to the body -- five springs alone will keep the trem from moving....

You will undoubtedly need a new setup after doing this....

For many years I just put in 5 springs and tightened down the spring claw.

Worked excellent.

Thank you for the tips, I tightened the screws on the front side of the bridge, and measured with calipers for depth and thickness. Cut a block of Oak, and sanded it to size, tapped it in very snug to tight, I didn't get it centered, but it isn't coming out,I'll tell you that! As snug as the fit is, I don't believe I need two more springs, but what do I know? Do you think I need five springs anyway? BF

I didn't have extra springs either, but in my 1 Strat I blocked with fitted Mahogany shims I made. I put them on both sides of the block. Everythings wedged in there really tight. I'm hoping I can get it out if I ever need to do anything to the trem!
