Hello to the fender faithful

Hoping someone can help with an ID on a guitar we found.
My sister-in-law lost her brother recently, and is faced with the sad task of clearing out his belongings.
We discovered this Fender guitar, among his things, and I’m having some trouble figuring out what it is.
The local Music store was little help (told us it was a JUNK copy of a Fender), and I can’t seam to find anything on the Fender site that looks like it?
Maybe he was right?
It’s in beautiful shape, looks like it was never played, metallic red in color.
If it’s reasonably valuable, it should probably go to someone that can appreciate it, if not she will probably keep it around for the kids to use someday.

Serial number is E941124

Any help is appreciated, thanks

Thanks guy's....
I knew someone could help.
I looked high and low, but all the Stratocasters seam to have the cable coming out the front face, not the side.
And that "tool" (salesman @ the store) was so positive it was a fake?
Turned me upside down ... alittle.
Now I have some good info to search on.

Thanks again 8)

This is probably not a good guitar to keep for a kid to bang around.

Its worth £400-£600 British prices. Maybe more, most i see are green or pink. Thats a nice colour, candy apple or cola red if i'm not mistaken. Also it appears to be in fair condition, played but loved. Its definately been looked after.
Go back and tell the tool theres an angry brit who loves them metal strats after him.

I dont know about Usa prices.

Sorry for your families loss.

Nick

Yes, that's a 1989 Fender HM Strat. GREAT guitars. Probably worth around $450 - $550 on eBay. That's high end for these, but that looks to be in good shape, and the maple boards are a bit more rare.

You can get more info at: http://www.HeavyMetalStrat.com, and you could even post it for sale in the forum if you like. There is one member there looking for a turqouise with maple fretboard right now, maybe he would be interested after seeing yours...

Also sorry for your loss.

Nice Heavy Metal Strat. (HM Strat) You can generally pick these up for about $450 . Looks pretty nice. Hope it finds a good home. Sorry to hear of a family loss though. :(

I had the Squire HM III Strat that looked like that. Same color, different headstock that is. It was cool. I couldn't afford the extra $200 to get the Fender HM series (I was 16 when I bought it). I bet that puppy can howl and grunt pretty good. Should sound good through a Boss MT-2 Metal Zone or what ever distortion you play through. Looks real good for a 20 y/o guitar.

Thanks again for all the replies...
It helped direct my searching and I found a lot of good info.

The cell phone picture doesn't do the guitar justice, it looks brand new!

For now (I think) we decided to keep this stuff around & in the family, hoping one of the nieces/nephews might get interested in them (when they get older).

Found some pedals and a small Marshall Lead 12 amp, with the guitar, as well ... and an old mixer?
It's like finding a time capsule from the 80's :D
Funny thing is no one knew he was ever into guitars

At the risk of sounding a little morbid, some advice to any of you that have a collection of equipment. Keep a folder around of what everything is, and what’s valuable (and what isn’t), printout’s from the net, etc. , just in case you aren’t around someday :(
The net is a great place, I'd hate to have to rely on the local shops for info...

Thanks again for helping out a stranger

That one pedal looks to be a Tech21 Sans Amp Classic very nice. A few dollars there.

It's a Heavy Metal Strat (also called the HM Strat) they made them from around 1988 to 1990.
I owned one for years and they kick butt
Don't let anyone tell you it's junk. I wish I still had mine but y'know the story, I needed cash and it was the one I played the least so . . . .

They are going from $350 to $500+ on Ebay.

Yours looks like a very clean example

If you decide to sell it gimme a shout

Super L,
There are several publications available that can help you determine the value of all the equipment and the guitar. I would sugggest the "Vintage Guitar Guide" 09 installment. Available thru Amazon reasonably priced. It will list the resale value of that HM strat in low to high price range in excellent condition. It will also give you an approximate value for all the pedals and the amp as well. Some of these items may be valuable to some collectors or players looking for a certain tone. The X26 4 track recorder that you pictured may not get much right now because its old tech. I have one I know...

My heart and prayers go out to you and your extended family as you go thru this time together...

Danny
