Hi spaceman spliff...Welcome to the Board....i believe you know the prefix "D" in the DZ40 depicts as a deluxe model rite?
I checked my Fenders and its usually the first 3 alphanumeral have the same fonts and the remainder have another type of fonts used in the serial.I hope that helps. But if you want more opinion post an image of the serial here.

I'm sure the "old timers" like Ceri and Co. would give you their better judgement....and furthermore pictures speaks louder here more than just the words. :D

No, it's on ebay. And it seems like the real deal based on specs and pics, but I figured second opinions might help.

Ah...that explains! Most sellers in eBay usually erase(digitaly from pictures) the remaining serial number to prevent from fraud cases.
Some rogue sellers from China posted the same genuine pictures with serial numbers in their site and sell it cheap but only to buyer dismay its a fender copy when they get it.
I'll post a link that explains it if i can find one....only thru contact with the seller you will able to get the serial number and check it out.

As mention only thru contact with the seller will you know if its a fraud or genuine. It happen to me once and never respond to 2nd offer from eBay....
Good luck!

Heres the link. I've been looking around to see if there are any deluxe models with the same price but there aren't. Not quite sure what to think of this..

looks ok to me. The no gold hardware would be because of the montego black colour. The only others i've seen are sunburst with gold as opposed to black and silver.
Theres certainly a lot of extra's with it, which i think could be putting you off. It all seems a bit overkill. However if you look at the guitar only it looks legit.
The price could well be because of the colour, montego black seems to be a love or hate colour. Personaly i dont like the annodized gold plastic and would have the white plastic fitted lickety split.
Looks ok, i'd see if i could play it before bought it though.

I've got a couple Deluxes and none of them have a serial # in that upper location on the headstock. 8) Mike
