I like how they are giving away 12 sets of fender strings along with the new standard strat.. so for 50 more bucks its kind of worth it :) plus they look really cool I am eyeing the placid blue color it looks awesomeee

Thats a great looking guitar paisley. Your are right the MIM Tex Mex in 96 came in Candy Apple Red which is a shinny deep pearl looking red yours looks to be the Crimson Red Metalic which was availible on the MIM HSS Fat Strat's until 2000 they had the metal flake apperance .

This guitar has been a mystery since I bought it used 2 years ago. All I knew was it is a 1996 HSS Stratocaster Standard with a strange set of features. It has vintage style tuners (with safety post and oiling hole) spaghetti logo and tinted neck finish. The neck itself is quite fat compared to any other Strat I have played, but it has med-jumbo frets, which is not in keeping with the necks vintage vibe. I have also never seen that Crimson red metallic before. After a complete tear-down, I found it to conform to Fender specs thru and thru. The body rout is set up for HSS pickups( not a "bathtub rout"). It is a great guitar, and after the tear down and meticulous set up, it plays beautifully, and sounds great. The pickups have a nicer tone than my stock 2001 MIM Strat with ceramic pups.
The best part about that guitar is I spent $300 even with a new SKB rect. case!!! Gotta love your local pawn broker!!!
