Personally I would rather relic my own guitars over a period of many years.

I think there's a role for relicing. I have just begun a new business venture: a car relicing service. By secret methods known only to our highly skilled crafts people we will take your brand new car and treat it so that it looks as though it just completed the Paris-Dakar rally.

Nobody but you need ever know you've never driven that vehicle further than the supermarket carpark...

Am I getting my point across?

I'm in my early 50's and plan on slowly relic'ing my current guitars over many years.

I love the look of a beat up Strat, but would never pay someone to have it done.
I have my own cheap method (which sometimes even comes with free beer!). Join a band and get booked into some of the small crappy clubs we do  . One place we play alot the "stage" is right on the main floor. If my Strat isnt taking a beating from other band members bumping it it's the drunk patrons doing it.

This has been discussed so many times on this Forum as well as on others guitar related ones, that there is no new point on carrying on again
To each his view.

Alain,
So glad to see you chime in... Great pictures !! :D thanks for sharing again... Ceri I've got a 97 Chevy S10 4WD needs some more relic work. If you get to this side of the Atlantic I'll take you to the Redneck Rally where everybody drinks warm beer smokes funny things and listens to Brad Paisley singin "Mud on the Tires".. Yeehaa

I'm actually starting to appreciate the closet classic look. I think the relic thing is just overboard in alot of cases. The CC tends to be very tastefully done though.
Of course if your buying a blackie or malmsteen replica, you want all the dings and scratches in the right places. For me though, on a standard time machine model its closet classic all the way. If my guitars dont look relic'd after 15 years of play their never going to.

I think, Malmsteen replica was over relic...It has Vintage White finish over the Olympic White, so you will see some white colour instead of wood

I'd rather buy some custom shop non artist model stratocasters if I have $12,500

The malmsteen replica is a replica, i wouldnt class it as a relic. If you bought a mon lisa replica and when it was delivered she had blonde hair and was smoking a J, you'd want to know what waqs going on. :D

No ammount of explanation about artistic improvement would get the artist/copier out of trouble.
