I personally think they are a waste of money.

To replicate a guitar like Pearly Gates (for Billy Gibbons)to take on tour makes sense to me. Further, to make any guitar that just doesnt look new? Sure. I see value there. But it would be MUCH less than that of a pristine iinstrument.

Having said that, I never saw the logic in buying pre-distressed jeans.

Most of all, I didnt start playing guitar again for about 17 years and Id moved to Japan from my home in the US. So I dont know what current "fashion" back home is. But over here, "reliced" guitars looking as if theyd been spun in a cement mixer, dragged behind a top fuel dragster, left in the rain in Ecuador for 2-3 years, then subjected to the arttistic whims of a junior high kid with slogans like "do bongs" and experimental guitar-body piercing. (Maybe I was exaggerating about the top-fuel dragster...) But my point is that these reliced projects are interesting, but I wouldnt give you the money from under the cushions in my couch for one. Tastes in the US are probably more moderate(?)

So again...if you are Keith Richards, for me it makes sense for you to play a guitar that isnt new. For others... I guess its up to personal choice. I personally would not choose to do when Fender guitars are so beautiful when cared for (especially when old).

Absolutely, Positively, without a doubt. NO!!!! If I haven't personally worn the finish off or dropped it on stage because I won't use strap locks then it is not a true relic... However in about 30 more years I'll be glad to sell one of mine to you for some ridiculously high price... 8)

Hello Leonardusnn,

I usually respond with a flat out no.
But in all fairness I can understand
players enjoying that choice. Last
month I spent a little time checking
a sunburst out, it played very well.
Some like white, some like green,&
some like one that are reliced. While
not for me, many prefer that finish.

Cheers.

The boys at fender do great jobs on those relics which is why i believe the price they ask, although crappy, is fair. Buying/Owning a pristine strat is a great feeling, but common, after 2 or 3, that Rory Gallagher is lookin reeeeaaalllly nice.

I am not a fan of manufactured Relic guitars but like Bill said it is nice that it is offered to those who do.want them I also beleive the build quality of them are very good because of the extra time and attention spent on the process of relicing.

I would never pay for a new Reliced guitar. I will relic it myself in time and it would be cheaper. The only time I would consider a reliced guitar if I found a used guitar in a shop and it played and sounded excellent.

More money for a wrecked-up guitar?

No thanks! Like others have said, I can do that myself.

Your guitar is going to get that old beat up look just by using it over time. Why would someone want to pay more money for a guitar that looks like its ready to be recycled. I`m a neat freak, after I use my guitar I wipe the strings down and polish it after each use. To me, theres nothing like taking the guitar out of the case and its all shined up.

Pre-relic'd guitars are not to my taste.

It's completely stupid! Then you see on Musician's Friend, they're selling Relic Telecasters and Relic Stratocasters with some bucks off for being a "scratch and dent" item, and in the item description is noted "minor nicks/scratches." Of course it always begs the question "WHERE?" All of my "relic" guitars got their nicks, scratches, scuffs and paint dents the hard way...I dropped 'em (before I learned about strap locks).

Personally, I don't like them. I agree with others who say "I can do that to it myself", although I never would.
