So I got a Vibro Champ for Christmas from somone. I have a Princeton 65 Reissue I use, but it is too much for practice at home. I actually am pretty impressed with this but.... I want to get rid of the speaker they put in it. I'm not looking to break the bank on a speaker. Does anyone have any suggestions. I know I"ll hear the " you have to listen for yourself" and I know, but if I could get steered in the right direction it would be great.
And also, How was everyones holiday??? This is the first one for me in 6-7 years I didnt feel the desire to hide in a hole till it was over LOL

Celeston makes (or made) good speakers. It has been a while since I had to buy a new speaker for my amp so I am not sure that they are still around. So far the Holidays have been well for me. Just can't wait until New Years is over.

I don't know that "good" and 8" speaker can be used in the same sentence when it comes to guitar speakers. To me the minimum is 10" and 12" is perfect.

With that, I am a fan of celestion speakers and I do believe they have a reasonably priced 8" replacement speaker. If there is room to hog out the sound board, it would be a neat mod to upgrade to a 10" speaker though

http://professional.celestion.com/guita ... .asp?ID=11

I just upgraded the speaker in my old 1982 Peavey Backstage to the celestion tube 10. It was voiced very differently than the original, so the tone knob setting I used to use, no longer worked as good. But the overall effect was quite nice. I would have upgraded to a 12" vintage 30 but Peavey did not leave enough room to get a 12" speaker in there. I did not want to sheel out the money for a 10" vintage 30, so I went with the tube 10. Now that its broken in it sounds good

You may try a Jenson MOD8 or a P8R the P8R sell for like 80.00 the other is like 45.00 you just have to make sure you get the right OHM rating.

I wouldn't be able to fit a 10 in that cabinet, and don't really want to build another one. I would do it if I could, but I checked it out and I don't think I can. I will look into one of thos speakers that were mentioned.

Don't buy anything until you check out Weber speakers. Their 8s are really reasonable. I put one in my '65 Vibro-Champ and have been very impressed. I have other Webers and they've all been great.

I could probably put one into the cab of an old crap epi 25 watt solid state amp in the basement. Id have to gut the whole front, but I could run through the line out.

I haven't seen anything that explains the dissatisfaction with the original speaker. Are you sure there is a problems with it? Isn't it possible you could spend good money on a new speaker and still be dissatisfied? Perhaps no 8" speaker will perform the way you want it to.
