I just picked up a used 2000 MIM Sunburst Strat today. Everything LOOKS original on it. I know it won't have the same sound as my Tele, but the pups seem a bit muddy (which I don't mind). Since I am kinda new at Strats, other than the Univox Ripper I had years ago, are the stock pups in standard strats usually muddy or no? Pups are all single coil.

Thanks for any help!

I usually get clean tones from mine...(but it isn't a MIM). You may need to adjust the height of the pick-ups if they sound muffled.

Thanks. They seem about the right height, but, like I said, I'm a "Strat newbie".

The MIM Strats use ceramic magnets in their Pups which will give it a warmer tone on the low mids and lows. The highs will not sound as bright as they would on your Tele. You might experiment with your P/U heights.
Fender recommends 5/64 on the bass side and 4/64 on the treble side from the bottom of the string to the top of the magnet. If you get too close you will lose your intonation and sustain because the magnet will interfere with the string oscillation. Too low and the tone sounds real thin. Its a dance you'll need too learn... Have fun I'm always tweaking mine. Welcome
