Ya know, I never played Fenders until Hurricane Katrina hit and I lost 90% of my equipment in 3 feet of water on my first floor. Being that it takes a lot of money to rebuild, I decided to try building my guitars, for 1, it was cheaper, and 2, I figured I could make it the way I wanted to. The result was 2 Strats that came out AWSOME!!! I used MIM bodies, 1 alder, 1 ash, Mighty Mite CBS Necks and everything else was just my choice of electronics and hardware. My red MIM was all original, untill I started upgrading it to my prefrences. Now...I LOVE building and modding Fender Strats and want to move onto Telecasters next. I find that Fender has to be one of the most versitile guitars to make your own, just look at EVH's Frakenstrat....how many mods has that monster gone through? If you have a favorite mod you do to your Fenders, let us all know what it is. As you can see...I LOVE the Single Humbucker on my strats, and thats my signature deal locally. I have done plenty mods on these, but here they are in current state, except the red one, which I found a really kickass pickguard for.

How did you get the arms painted on the plate steel? And the guy under that sweet paint job?

That lools unbelievable. I never considered a single humbucker to be honest, but that looks good enough to reconsider. If you were thinking about a mod, you may want to put in a coil splitter. Then if you wanted to have a single coil sound you could. That would definitely give you a little versatility. You could put in a saddle mounted piezo pickup,
You could get a mock acoustic sound, and it wouldn't clutter up the clean lines on your guitar. Then it'd be a monster.

I am also wondering where the steel plate pick guard came from. That is one nice looking guitar.

Pickguards.com has the diamond plate guards for $55 if anyone is interested. They have different configurations for the types of pickups your using also. They have them for Strats and Teles. The mods I did on one of my Strats was changing the pups to Texas Specials and a white pearloid pick guard with a heavier guage set of strings. The pup change gave it a nice deep tone for the blues.

Love the look of it. I've been thinking of doing something similar - buying a Standard, and having a single pickup, though in my case, the neck pickup.

Thanks, I love the Single Humbucker in my strat. I built an EVH black and yellow and just dug the tone and ease of not having to mess with my tone knobs, just crank and play.
I am doing that to my White Strat, putting in a coil splitter. Just trying to do one at a time, and give each one a different sound. The blue one has an EMG in it, but I am piecing that out to rebuild something different.

Like mine was before I put the diamond plate on. I always changed to pearloid, it looks way better than just white, on certain colors. My first inspiration was the white and black EVH. I may do a custom paint on one of them, but not stripes, something else.
