hi all.

hope everyone had nice christmas!!

i did, santa left me a brand new hwy 1 sss (3 tone/maple)

its sooo nice, they wernt lying when they said its a tone monster. i find it hard to belive anything could sound better!!

1 problem tho, i got major fret buzz on low E string pretty much right up the fret board, and a little rattle on the A string mailnly 12th fret and higher. when playing unplugged the buzz and rattle sounds awfull :(

when plugged into amp it sounds ok and the note rings true, can just feel slight rattle under finger if you know what i mean? the low E feels almost a bit loose, i dont know all i know is its rattling! all higher strings are fine tho just low E and A a little but alot above 12th fret

PLEASE HELP if you can. im a bit gutted about this! i upgraded from a £100 starter kit to this. so feel a bit let down from a usa made fender which i thought were the bees knees.

you gonna have to excuse me i know little about workings of elec guitar except how to tune and play

THANKS FOR READING

Relax Son Youve got yourself some great kit as you will come to recognize in future days. For now youve got yourself a guitar that just needs some adjustment. This is in now way indicative of the quality of the guitar. Even Ferarris need tuning now and again. Just as a cars engine might need to be recalibrated to life in the mountains vs life at sea level to run its best... A new guitar should be calibrated to its new surroundings. A quick $25 dollar trip to your local luthier should get it sorted right out.

1) possible neck adjustment
2) possible bridge adjustment

You should tell the guy how high or low you like the strings to be and he will handle the rest. Your E and A strings are likely too low now which is why its likely buzzing. There are other possible reasons but they arent as likely.

Also, with all the info avalable on guitar repair these days you COULD do the work yourself if you are handy with tools and read directions well. BUT mistakes with neck adjustment can reduce the value of your new prize to less that of the box it shipped in. So if you dont know what youre doing, just get the $20 bucks or so, pay the man.

Do NOT just take it to the guitar shop. You need to go to someone who knows how to work with guitars. (although they MAY have just such a person working at your local shop! The other part of that is that since you (or Santa) DID just buy the guitar, perhaps they OUGHT to set it up free of charge. If not a full setup, at least enough so the strings dont clatter against their frets. It cannot hurt to ask.

Good luck.

Check the action and adjust the saddle. If it is to your liking and still buzzing you might need to add some neck relief.

A tune up will always be needed at some point. The frequency depends on the quality of the instruments, how much you care for it and the amount of time it is played.

Contact the shop then. Straightaway, do not delay, call today. A word of caution however. Do not confuse "nice" with "knowledgeable". You need someone who knows how to set up a guitar properly. Here in Tokyo Ive met quite a few NICE shop owners and managers. They are great to BUY gear from, but I have yet to find someone who understands how to work on it.

Like a car engine that needs occasional tuning, your guitar will need regular adjustments. How often depends upon: How aggressively you play, how frequently you play, How much you learn to do yourself, How well the guy before has adjusted it, your local temperature, and humidity.

Yeah, the weather plays a role. Its wood and wire stretched to exacting tensions. Weather will affect that tensioning. Im from Southern California which is hot and arid where I got that done about twice a year. Here in Japan where temperatures go from hot to freezing and the humidity is high in summer and low in winter... Ive had to go three time a year. But I also play much more over here. Anyway... the initial BIG setup might cost about $50 or a little more, but subsequent minor regular adjustments? My shop in Miyazaki Japan did them for free because I bought my strings there. check with your guy.

Good luck.

yeah i hear ya! the shop i brought it from dont advertise that they do guitar set ups, so i would be quite wary of giving it to them to look at!
i found a place near by that do pro set ups and adjustments!! the guys ment to be really good! so im just gonna cough up for a full set up i think!
theres a 4 week waiting list tho!

ive heard loads of people on here rave about getting there guitar set up properly!! what should i expect from a full set up? it costing about £50
will it be even more of dream to play??
will he have to raise the action even more to get rid of the buzz??

Could be a string height issue.
Could be a neck curvature issue.

Take it to a shop for a set up. Lots of guitars need one "right out of the box".

Louis, if your anywhere near nottingham/ south lincolnshire anytime soon drop it into my house, i'll do it for ya while the missus gets the kettle on.

It really is no biggie. 20-30 minute job at most to fully set the guitar up.

Just make sure you bring that martin 000 too for me to have a strum on. :D

Hey man great guitar and I also have one. Have had it for a year now and play blues and southern rock in a band "Southern Thunder". I had mine set up before I left with it and haven't had a minutes trouble. Will prob. buy a second one soon. I have a PRS and a LesPaul dc like the Fender a little better.
