I know its important to protect the pick guard on a new Fender Strat. but, does anyone else here besides me find it a somewhat of a hassle peeling off the protective pick guard plastic liner? Just wondering.

You have to loosen the screws to get from under them then split it towards the knobs and pull apart to get from under unless you pull the knob.

Right, but what I don't like doing is having to loosen the 3 nuts on the volume and two tone knobs to completely remove all the plastic under them. Just a little time consuming but worth the work.

Yes, it is annoying to take off the plastic. I just left the plastic on my American Standard, and I left the American Flag, so it looks pretty cool. If you leave the plastic on, then you will save the pickguard from all those scratches.

I've never bought a new Strat, I guess I'll never know that joy.

Somehow it is a little annoying when you buy your first strat ... when you are new to the fender world yes, but then after that happens you find it easy to take it off :)

Two points.

1) removing plastic isnt that hard, and scratches on an uncovered pickguard look MUCH better than scratches in plastic film over a pickguard.

2) Ive seen some strats here in Japan where people left the stickers on the guitar for (years?) when those stickers eventually come off youll have spots in the pickguard and backplate where UV or just the passage of time has changed the plastic coloring but the plastic under the stickers is still factory fresh. Its NOT an endearing look... My vote is take the stickers off.

The way I play I don't have to worry about scratches as I do not lay my hand on the pick guard. I rest it on the strings that I am not playing or above the strings. Anyway, I appreciate all the input so far. Also, when a pick guard show scratches I think it is from the persons fingernails as they play.

Hello Strat-brat,

I got a '62 hotrod back in july
and left the plastic on the pickguard.
Six months later {now}
it looks pretty crummy,
dogeard edges & wrinlky.
I'm gonna peel it off tommorrow I think.
I'm gonna miss my little USA flag.

Cheers.

Seems to me that if you really wanted to fly some red white and blue... That a custom pickguard or even a custom painted flag would make more sense and look better!

Do the 7 red stripes on the flag signify anything? i know the stars have something to do with states.
A stars and stripes trem would look great on a fiesta or hotrod red strat. It would be a game to match it all up though. Everytime you adjusted intonation you'd knock the stars out of whack.

Hello Nikininja,

7 red stripes & 6 white represent
the thirteen original colonies.
The red was from our mother country,
seperating it with white stripes showing
that we seperated from her.
The white indicates liberty.

Cheers.

A flag? I just bought a brand new American Standard last week and it has no flag sticker. What gives?
