So I replaced the pickguard on my strat today and I guess I put the pickups back in wrong... lol. I have no tone control on my neck pickup anymore but I do on my bridge pickup. I'm 90% sure it was the other way around... idk. Should I leave it or fix it?

Oh... and one of my tone knobs doesn't do anything. But it has been like that forever and I've never really complained.. lol

Well I just went and checked and I'm positive that all the pickups are in the correct positions.. I mean the wire length should have been enough to convince when putting them back in but I checked the wires running into the pickup selector. I guess I put the tone controls back in wrong or something... very odd...

Ok, looks like your guitar's wiring got out of hand right now ... Id suggest you to take a look at the wiring diagrams available on this website... and then compare it to what you have done and fix whatever is not right according to the diagrams :)

Sorry for being such a noob.. this is the first time I've taken my strat apart (but I know what is going on inside). How could the wiring have changed... as I really haven't changed any wiring.. I just removed the pickguard and replaced it. I'll look though.. I might just take it to the shop as well. I hate potentially messing things up.

could you have put the bridge pickup in the neck possition and neck in bridge, without disconnecting them?
I find a tone control on the bridge alot more usefull then one on the neck anyway. I'd play it as is a while and see if you like it too.

I actually semi-agree with you, but for some reason the middle pickup doesn't sound as good as it used to. I don't even know why.. but I checked the wiring and the pickups are all right. I mean if I really wanted to adjust the tone I could use the amp, but I rarely use my bridge pickup. Hmmm... I might just take it to the shop. I hate messing around with the guitar... it takes so long.. haha

It sounds like a grounding problem to me.

Did your new pickguard have shielding tape around the control area?

Do you have a multimeter to check your circuit out?
