Ok, I have a Strat-like guitar that my friend gave to me as an early Christmas present. He had been using just some stock strings that start on a .008 mm.
I took these off and replaced them with some D'Addario Chromes at .011
Here's the issue:
I love the strings and the feel, but whenever I tune them to anything above Drop C, the bridge starts to angle up as if it's being pulled by a tremelo bar or something.
Is there any way that these strings will eventually stretch enough that they can be tuned up to standard? Or am I stuck in the depths of C?

Don't get me wrong though, I love the sound of this guitar in low tunings, but playing in standard would be nice every now and then.

You have to adjust the screws at the Trem Spring Claw. Turning them in will pull the bridge down to where you want/need it.

My personal advice is to have a complete setup done.

I agree with CAFeathers. Any time you change the guage of the strings of the guitar, you should re-intonate (set-up) the guitar. If the guitar your freind gave you is (I hate to use the word old) old, it may be time for it anyways. You can either attempt this yourself (plenty of resources on the web) or you could take it to a guitar shop that has that service. Usually costs $50 to $100 depending where you go.

You do this so you can play a G note and it is a true G or play an Am and not have it sound out of tune.

I agree as well! I changed my acoustic guitar strings from .010 to .011 and forgot to ask them to adjust the truss rod and I get this irritating fret buzz!

Thats odd, I would expect the heavier gauge to bow the neck and NOT buzz.... I just changed my Strat from 009 to 010 and had the neck and bridgework done. Im glad I did.

And that would be a good testimonial for a good set-up.

What are the correct ( stock )size strings for the standard strat? I purchased some 9's but not sure if they are original for my 06 standard.

I'm pretty sure they come stock with all Fender Strats.

I am pretty sure that they are the Fender Super Bullets .009 - .042's.

I'm pretty sure they come with Fender 3250L Bullets, and I think they are .009s. That's with the trem bar. If not, they come with 250L.

The correct string guage is whatever is right for you. Then the guitar needs to be set up for that string guage. Heavier strings may increase the relief, but not enough to compensate for the increased excursion of the strings. Needs a setup.

When I bought my MIM 60's strat it came stock with bullets 10's and that was the recommended gauge for that guitar ... but I guess they base that recommendation on how the guitar is setup frmo factory ... so basically you can use whatever you like as long as you set it up for it :)
