The TS-9, the TS9DX turbo, or the TS808 vintage.

Here's a list of influences: Aerosmith, The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Cheap Trick, CSN, Deep Purple, Dire Straits, The Doors, The Eagles, ELO, ELP, Eric Clapton, Genesis, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Mother Love Bone, Neil Young, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, The Police, Porcupine Tree, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Rush, Santana, The Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Temple of the Dog, U2, Van Halen, The Who, ZZ Top etc...

Right now I have a Vox Valvetronix amp, but I'm planning on getting a tube amp in the late future. I'm looking to combine the tube screamer with my Big Muff Pi.

Ehm respectfully, if these are your influences, something like a MXR distortion + with a Marshall JCM800 would be more indicated...

The reason I'm getting a tube screamer is because I know that Stevie Ray Vaughan used it. He's got a really nice tone.

Still respectfully, Van Halen's sound is light years from SRV...

I'm pretty sure that the distortion + was used by Perry, Randy Rhoads, and ZZ top.

For Queen you need more bite ( I started to play Brian May and in my teens I was obsessed by getting his tone), so for Blackmore...then, choices are to be made...

I'll look into the MXR distortion. I guess what I'll do is try them both out and see which one I like best.

Try to get the old ones, with germanium diodes. They sound much warmer than the reissues. I had the same problem with the DOD250...current models are different than my original '78 gray box.

The best MXRs were made in the end of the 70s/early 80s. They have a italic script logo.

Ok, I'll see if I can find them. Thanks.

All those pedals (old school) are pretty easy to find here in Tokyo... but they cost. Be willing to pay $500-$700 plus shipping. Prices back here are kind of silly. I can get a 70s reissue Fender Strat for $400, but some Fender lace pickups run me $300 for the set... pedals also go for twice as much. Except vintage. Then prices start to get nasty.

Weird, considering most of those were built in Japan.

What do you think of the Malmsteen signature dod yjm 308? I heard its based on his vintage dod250 gray, but is closer to the dod 250 yellow.

From reading your influences the TS-808 would be the choice. If your handy with a soldering iron and building things you can go to the General Guitar Gadgets web site and order the TS-808 kit. I got mine with the Keely and AMZ mods. You can build that for less than the price of a TS9 or whatever.

Funny, I was just contemplating the same question this weekend. Note my user name. I got the "bug" after seeing the 4th (or 5th?) sample video on the Fender website for the Super reverb amp, where the gentleman playing was using an Ibanez Tube Screamer TS-9. I love that sound!!!!

I chose a Maxon OD-9 for myself. It seemed to be the closest sound I was looking for judging by the sample .mp3's on their website.

I also have a Boss MT-2 that I tried with my HRDeville 410. A lot of fun, but way to heavy and dark for some stuff I want to play (SRV, etc.) I'm not going to get rid of it though. The MT-2 is still a lot of fun for GnR, Velvet Revolver, etc.

Whatever the decision, I know you will have a lot of fun with it!
