Just got a new Strat in the mail today.....Billy Corgan Sig model. Totally pumped to plug it in after work.

I've never bought a guitar that wasn't already set up at the store, so I don't know if this is normal or not. The screws on the pickups are loose. One feels like there is no threading on it, as it moves around quite a bit. Is this normal on a new guitar fresh out of the box? Do I just rip off the film, get out my screwdriver to set them and play away? I don't want to mess with it if there is something wrong....hoping this is just how they come and no big deal.

go to the support section on this site, look up the strat set up page. follow it as a base guideline. I have found both my strats took to those settings really really well and I've done minor adjustments due to my playing style since but not far from factory specs. Thats a great base to start from on a new guitar. I don't even let my music store do my set ups anymore now that I know this info (except cutting the nut). And if you choose to use 10s instead of the stock 9s, I suggest you take it to a tech and let them properly cut the nut for you, it will keep many of your headaches down in tuning issues. They may sight the neck for you as well, but your cost will be much lower if you do all the other stuff before hand. I'd wait on pulling the plastic until you are done doing setup (just in case the screwdriver or allen wrench slips) and also use plenty of microfiber cloths around your paintjob while working and you will be fine.

And finally: CONGRATS ON A GREAT GUITAR, ENJOY IT!

It's not normal. It may just be that the adjustment screw for some reason is out of the hole it's supposed to be in. My suggestion, is to take to a luthier, or repair center,, whatever. Pay the $50, and have a full setup done. That way the problem will be addressed correctly, and everything else will be done to it that needs to be so it will play in tip top shape. I do most of my own maintenance, but I still bring my guitars to my tech once or twice a year. He usually does the work for me at a huge discount because most of the work is done already, but almost everytime he finds something I did wrong.

Thanks for the guidance guys....

I have the patience of a 3rd grader, so I tightened the screws. It caused the pickups to raise and tighten up. I guess I never realized that they were that adjustable. Looks like everything is cool and I can now take the film off this thing.

Totally excited, what a great looking guitar! Even though I've only been playing for a few months, it does feel different than my Highway One, which I'll be keeping after all. I had thought that if they were similar, I'd sell the H1, which I'm kinda happy I don't have to.

Thanks again :)

I hope you didn't move the pickups too close to the strings.

It sounds like you are going to be learning a lot about Stratocasters.
Enjoy the trip. We all go through it.
