know what you're buying. It could be an American Standard, or a Highway 1, they'll both have Z3 in the #'s, but the AM Std is more $$$

What if your serial number starts Z1 ?
Does this signify a specific model Strat?

This is from the Fender site:

"Z"-prefix serial numbers denoting the new millennium appeared on U.S.-made instruments in 2000. Z0 denotes 2000; Z1 denotes 2001, etc. American Deluxe Series instruments use the same dating convention, but with the addition of a "D" in front of the "Z", i.e., DZ1, DZ2, etc. As always, there is typically some number prefix overlap and carryover from year to year.

No, it means its a 2001 model year. Z denote 2000 millenium, the number after is the year If its says MZ its a Mexican, DZ is an American Deluxe. Z is American. There is a breakdown on the site to how to read serial numbers.
