Hi Strat-lovers,

I'm considering putting together a project Partsocaster, and I'm curious on the compatibility of parts..

My question is if I found a good body with an HSS (or even HSH) routing, could I still buy and use a loaded SSS pickguard? My thought is that the single pickups would fit within the Humbucker routing, and the pickguard would cover the routing holes so it wouldn't matter.

I would assume that as long as the pickguard holes are in the same location on both bodies it would work, but I can't seem to find an answer on the web.

Thanks!

Hi PearlDrummerYan: in short, yes, it'll work. Most (but not all) modern Strats now seem to have an HSH route whatever the actual pickup configuration. A single coil pickup fits easily into the humbucker cavity.

I was about to post that my '07 Fender HWY 1 Stratocaster has HSH route job and it is a SSS config right now.

Sweet, glad to hear that. I've been looking at bodies on eBay and I'm waiting to save a little more $ before I buy one but a lot of the nice bodies I'm coming across are either HSS or HSH and I definitely want SSS, most likely SCN Noiseless w/ S-1 switching. :)

Quite a few of strat-type bodies have a pickup rout that will accomodate any configuration(SSS,HSS,HSH,HH). Some call it the bathtub rout, as it is just a big cavity under the pickguard. I am not a huge fan of removing body material, but it is an easy way for Fender, or other companies to rout one body for many different pickup setups.

Stew Mac sells Strat bodies with a universal bathtub route thats why I like places like Warmoth that sells your choice of routing configuration.I dont mind a H/S/H route but not the single big tub. Unless you making a J5 Triple Tele. that is.
