Dunlop 500's, .96mm
They are kind of dark pink colored, which I am not crazy about but whatever. They work the best for me. I love the beveled edge, it is so smooth and fast. They wear out kind of rapidly though. Dunlop has a new type of pick out called "Ultex" which are nice too and last much longer than the 500's, but the pick area is greater and doesn't fit my grip as well.

I used to use a heavier pick for electric playing and a lighter pick for acoustic but I got tired of never having the right one at the right time so I split the difference in thickness and just got used to the .96mm.

I switched to Fender abalone celluloid thins after many, many years of using the LPB mediums, but I have a variety of picks for different uses. I even experimented recently with Dunlop finger and thumb picks.

Does anybody remember the real Tortoise Shell picks? Oh and real Tortoise Shell Pickguards? Gibson has a Guitar with a wood pickguard, probably helps the tone until it hits all that glue and stuff. My EJ has a Single Ply, Parchment, which is a wood by-product along with the Nitrocellulose lacquer which along with the tight neck joint is the key to the sweet tone.

I remember the REAL tortoise shell picks...I have some. In fact I still have the original Fender plastic case with one unused pick in the package. Came as a pack of three. One I use and have for years, one is still in tha package, and the third I gave to my worship leader a couple months ago. Talk about tone !!!
So far you are the only one that remembers the actual picks made from tortoise shells. I guess it's not "planet friendly" or whatever to use real turtle shells and whatnot. Which is all good in my book. I have never seen or used them, but I heard some old pickers reminiscing about them. The dude said they were better tonally and were very expensive, seems like $100 bucks or more a piece. They were talking about maybe finding a old music store warehouse with some that had been overlooked. Pipe dream I know. Anyway, sorry so long for the response, I've been busy with school and all, I'm taking 17 credit hours this semester............

Later....Martin

I started out with thins and have worked my way up to extra heavy. They
are hard to find but are the next best thing to a peso.

Dunlop .60 orange picks. I used to use Claytons but the dunlop tortex pick holds up a lot better in my opinion.

I have these in 4 different gauges, trying to find the one I like best. So far it's the 1.14mm that's winning out. They're very stiff and very durable.

Ultex - they don't slip, don't disfigure, and don't wear as fast as others.

(on a side note - does anyone really use metal picks / ice pix?? they destroy strings!!)

I generally use dunlop pics called "tortex". The green ones (0.88 mm). They're not too thin or not too fat, they doesn't make my fingers sweat, they're comfortable. My only problem with pics is, i lose them very easily.
