i just bought a mim strat new from hoffmans. when i checked the serial number it says its a 2005. so, it has vintage frets and does not have the copper infused bridge block. so, does it really matter. are the considered junk now? it plays great and has wonderful tone and the finish seems much better than that of the (upgraded) 2008 models. did fender originally use the vintage frets and smaller bridge blocks on the american strats? just wondering. buy the way i paid $345 for it new.

Your '05 is nearly identical to what is considered the "2006+ upgraded" models. For me, I have an '04 that I would never part with.

In 2006, they came out with the bigger trem blocks, additional shielding, and the med jumbo frets.
- I picked up an 06+ block for mine off eBay for $12 which mates right up.
- You can easily fully shield it yourself if you are inclined. I have not had any need to do so for mine.
- As for the frets, I prefer the older smaller ones over the med jumbo that come with the 06+. For me, I do lots of slides and bends that are more difficult with bigger frets.

No, it is far from junk. Mexi Strats are great no matter what year they are.

Goodness gracious son. Fender don't make no junk whether its MIA MIM or MIJ. Play that thing till your fingers bleed... then tape em up and play some more. Have fun post some pics :D
