OK, before people roll their eyes.. What I was trying to type, was that I cant believe it, but the tone pots on this MIM strat I bought are better than what was on my American Deluxe. Now, they are different, for one, the bridge/middle pot on the AM DLx was a no-load, and these aren't. I don't know if they are better because the the standard mexi pickups were replaced for Rio Grande tallboys (which arent the best, but Im sure they're better than the mexicans, plus they came on it) and I dont know if they put in new pots. I know it was rewired so that the second pot controls the middle/bridge now instead of just the middle like how it came. Anyway, I can actually feather the tone control, and it actually responds. I can turn it all the way down to like 3 or 4, and it lowers the tone without losing the signal. On my Am Dlx, it seemed once I went below 7, it was just muddier and muddier. The volume pot is pretty good too. On the Mexican standards, and few others I tried, there were basically 3 settings for all the pots, high, medium, and silent. These actually have some in between.

I absolutely despise the no-load pots. I even reverted my frankencaster back to a tbx just to get rid of the no-load. Far too icepickey with no load on the circuit.

How about "I can't believe that the pots on my modded MIM which no longer resembles a stock MIM are better than the ones on my stock MIA"

At least that's accurate :D

I like the tbx kindof, its a bit restrictive but i developed a taste for the stunted detent/indent tone. Its just what i had to hand at the time (about 3am 2 weeks ago, after a few too many). :(

never mind tone controls....I never use it
but MIM stratocaster has a better tremolo for me...because they use the vintage style...

As far as I know, they're still the same pots that came with it new.

Most people don't upgrade the pickups in an MIM and neglect to change the pots.

Just bought a mim strat. I'm in the Uk and went to buy a bass but this MiM strat blewmyself and my luthier colleague away. It was on a wall with USA strats of all types but just stood out all round. My first fender since my anniversary strat was stolen back in '83' :)
