A friend of mine had a witing short on his guitar, i diagnosed it and said i'd resolder it in a day or two. He gets impaitent and decides to superglue the connection together, figuring he runined the pot , i bought a new CTS pot and planned on replacing it, it turned out fairly easy to clean up ,
So I decided to put the new CTS pot in my mim start, I've never replaced a pot or done any wiring other than patching bad connections as Ive been lucky to have a highly skilled luthier as good friend.....so I give it a go and thats when things get interesting.

Wired it up pretty much exactly to my knowledge as the previous pot had been....double checked everything....and it works....only not the way its supposed to...... The volume knob is a slight treble boost/cut now.....and honestly I kinda really dig it. First thing I noticed is how much quieter the background noise is now...its almost dead silent with high gain in the dual positions, and very little hum in single, everything else works the way it should...only instead of volume control I have an eq cut/boost. Prior to the change she was a pretty noisy.

Anyone know offhand what I did wrong? and if so could it be possible to replicate it with a push pull to do what its doing now in pull mode, and when you push it I have volume? I may just leave it as is as I seldom use the volume pot on my strat, pretty much just use a pedal for volume. The cut/boost does open some interesting new tones I didnt have before, and the over all output of the guitar seems to be I dont know if hotter is the right term...but stronger and clearer.....it doesnt really push it to breakup any faster or such....just more overall presence and clarity.

I figured it out....I bent the right post towards the pot but forgot to solder it....quick touch of solder and its a volume pot now....may undo it again though.
