First number I ever learnt was Sultans of Swing. So I guess my first riff must have been from somewhere near the beginning of that track.

Hop's mention of Batman is bringing back embarrassing memories. I hope nobody I was at school with is on this Forum and sharing that particular remembrance...!

Hey Hop: given that I was the drummer in that high school band - not long at all!

It hurts to remember: we had a keyboard player who had just got hold of a new-fangled item called a "synthesiser". It was basic to say the least. It could only play one note at a time, so he picked out the Batman theme with one finger while the bass player (who has had a significant career as a bassist and is now a very celebrated gentleman in the guitar retail business) played exactly the same line - we were strangers to the idea of harmony...!

On the other hand, we got three girls to dress up as "naughty school girls" in stockings and very short skirts and gyrate round a mic pretending to be backing singers, so it wasn't all bad. Hmm: I still have a photo of that somewhere...

:D - C

Seems like the majority learned Smoke on the Water. I still don't know it! :? Ceri, you say you have a photo of your high school days? Love to see it! 8)

...Erm; on reflection, perhaps not! Nostalgically recalling when we were 13 year old boys with a healthy interest in 13 year old girls is one thing. Middle-aged guys posting pictures of adolescent girls in fishnet stockings is a whole other thing entirely!

Someone would be hitting that "Forum Abuse" button - and rightly so!

Actually, that photo is much more innocent than it sounds. It hung amongst others on a pinboard for many years without my sensible minded wife finding anything to object to. But probably best to leave it there...

I'm sure I have other pictures that don't feature the backing singers in short skirts. Maybe I'll dig one out and post it at some appropriate time.

Cheers - C
