What is the best starter guitar? I am probably going to play the blues. Are certain guitars better for different styles?

Hello Mattnanokid,

I can't tell you the best
but I can say I like the stratocaster best.
Strat's are fine for the blues,
so are many others.
Remember it's not the guitar it's the operator.

Cheers.

Mattnanokid,
There are a lot of good brands out there for the blues. The real question is how much do you plan on paying for a guitar? Fender Stratocasters are good for the blues. So are Gibsons.

Fender owns a company called Squire that a lot of people (including myself) start into. Fender themselves also has different models ranging in price from $400 and up.

Gibson also has a lower end company called Epiphone. (Lower end not meaning that they are not good, just cheaper than their parent company.)

My advise that I give to everyone looking for a guitar is to play as many as you can within your price range. Play on the amp that you are going to purchace, or one more simular to the one you own. The one that feels the best to you is usually the best. If you have a friend who is into guitars I would take them along to the store to help you pick one out.

Personally I own a Fender HWY 1. I find that it is very versitile. I can play Rock, Metal, Blues, and Thrash with is. I am sure I could even play Country but I am not into it at all. I am sure that there will be a lot more posts to answer your question. Listen to them all, we're pretty good at giving good advise.

I read in the forum that they are good for Blues. I think Fender Stratocasters are good for any type of music. They are very versatile. From what I played, they are a good starter guitar and one that can grow as you grow. I kinda got spoiled with my HWY 1, but I would buy a MIM Strat. In fact I been debating on getting the HSS MIM Stratocaster with the Floyd Rose tremelo bar and getting rid of My ESP LTD guitar. I only play Metal and Thrash on the ESP anyways.

As stated before, play as many as you can before purchacing, even if you do not feel comfortable playing in the store. The right one will feel right and sound awesome to you when you find it. It will help you and ultimately make you happier in the long run.

Let us know how you did. If you have the ability, we love pictures of new guitars her at the Forum.
