Yes this is true but at the same time purists are against H H strats or even HSS strats :)

If you are into Maiden...Check out this thread. I found it very interesting. Also if you going for a Maiden sound...this is a must read. Sorry it is a long thread.

To answer your question. Yes it will make your guitar sound heavier.

Get a normal strat and put a dimarzio virtual solo in the bridge. depending one your amp settings/amp itself you can get a good heavy tone! I have that set up and it is killer.

Oh, you have an HSS, sorry I didn't see that.

Dimarzio super distortion or a dimarzio x2n if you are looking for beyond brutal.

Yes you would.
Come to the dark side, add Humbuckers to your strat!

For the Duncan blackouts, you may have to find a route for the battery. Perhaps you can extend the battery clip wires and feed it through the hole where the ground wire connects from the back trem claw to the pickups. That way you can keep the battery back there instead of leaving it inside the pickguard which can be a pain in the butt to change. Active pickups and passive pickups cannot use the same pots, so they all have to be separate.

I agree with everyone here..yes the blackouts will make the sound heavy!!!

As you can tell from my Dave tribute and another Strat I have, I'm a big fan of the DiMarzio Suoer Distortion. It works pretty darn well from classic to modern Metal.
