I have just noticed a kind of earthy buzzing/humming noise coming from my 70s usa strat and the first tone knob seems to reduse the humming e=when it is turned down and when its on the neck pick up . The second tone knob seems to reduce the buzzing on the middle pick up when it is turned down. However nothing seems to stop the brige pick up from buzzing. And I also like using the tone knobs to get certain sounds and therefore it is not ideal having them turned down. Can Anyone HELP ME? :?

It sounds like maybe your tone capacitor has dried up. It doesn't usually happen in guitars, but it commonly happens in amplifiers. Check everything else (cables, amp, etc) before you replace the capacitor though, so you can keep your guitar as original as possible.

Best way to isolate the hum is to break it down to minimum and work from there. First try playing straight into the amp with just a new cord. Then add your pedals one at a time. When the hum comes back you've found the culprit.

If you've got hum with just the guitar, amp and a new cord, try a different guitar. Still got hum? It's the amp. No hum? It's the guitar.

If it's the guitar it could be shielding (ground), solder might need to be reflowed (cold solder joints can be noisey and add capacitance to the circuit), bad cap.......have your local tech take it look at it. Should be simple fix.
