I have to agree with the magority of the names mentioned, surprised no one mentioned Roy Buchanon though, I always liked his use of harmonics and such.

But what about yngwie Malmsteen hes bloody amazing :D

1 He's an arrogant $@!&# (I've met him)
2 Most of his "amazing stuff" is ripped off classical music

Don't care if he's arrogant, he's a hell of a player. Alot of lead guitar playing is ripped off blues..so what's the point? Yngwie took the classical theory and made it his own. Guitar players starting doing what Yngwie started with the good use of sweep picking arpeggios. The guy's got great technique and precision playing.

Here's my top 10 in no particular order-
1.Yngwie Malmsteen
2.David Gilmour
3.Buddy Holly
4.Jimi Hendrix
5.Stevie Ray Vaughn
6.Eric Johnson
7.Dave Murray
8.Kurt Cobain for the reason that I really believe he brought Fender back and got the kids playing an actual standard Fender again over the 80's Super Strats that companies were churning up, before the grunge scene.
9.John Frusciante
10.Mark Knopler

I guess as a Canadian, I would throw jeff Healey into the mix, he was truly unique.

Being blind from infancy, he learned to play his guitar across his lap, more like a lap steel, he did stuff no one else could.
