Hello all,

I wanted to know of any strats that come with a larger neck. I am familiar with the Stevie Ray model, but it is very expensive. If the cheapest alternative I have is to buy a new neck...who do I see?

Thanks,

Dylan

Sicne you said the price was an issue, I am assuming you don't wnat the American Series guitars then. The imports that would have bigger necks are the Jimmy Vaughan TexMex and the 50s; both have soft Vs.

I am sure there are others too, but those are the ones I know.

Strats vary slightly from 41 to 43 mm wide at the nut. The heel end is always the same width. That's not much variety, I'm afraid.

Another aspect to think about is the shape of the back of the neck. Contemporary Strats mostly have a modern C-shape neck. '50s reissue type Strats will have some variation on a V-shape neck: soft V or hard V. To some people's hands those shapes also feel different sizes - but it depends on your hands. Try one or two out and see if it makes a useful difference to you.

Cheers - C

I also think a U shape would be Ideal. How did you score that?

Hello Highway Chile,

The '62 hotrod Strat has the
largest volume of lumber{on the neck}
of todays production models.

I love mine.

Cheers.

The John Mayer Signature is a thick C very similar to the SRV. Both can be purchased as a neck alone on ebay.

Right you are Mr. Bill. 62 Vintage Hot Rod - Fat neck, C shape. I love mine too. I can't imagine a better shape or feel. I posted a note a couple of weeks ago about whether I could get a tele neck with the same shape; has enyone heard of one?
Thanks

Hello Frankie5fingers,

According to fender custom shop
'62 hotrod has the thickest neck.
Next biggest neck is the '59 thinskin.
Custom shop will be happy to assemble
a '62 hotrod on a custom guitar for you,
but it bit pricey in todays economy{for me}

Have a safe and happy holiday.

Cheers.
