If you play your guitar as though you are making love - they're all great! Each has it's own unique flavor and should be relished as such - ENJOY!

The new MIMs that came in to the store I work at part time have a new color for the "Fender" logo and the serial was on the back of the headstock. They've tinted the necks to make them look aged and they've rolled the edges of the fingerboard and frets like the MIAs. The price also went up $50.00.

I played a couple of them and they're a good guitar for the money. Still use ceramic magnets on the pups and the tuners and tremelo are still not up to MIA standards but you can always fix that. The new colors are kewl. The Arctic white will blind you.

Play as many as you can get your hands on and buy the one that makes you feel like the first time you kissed your girlfriend.

That's a good way to think about it. But do you mean - the first time I kissed MY girlfriend, or kissed someone else's? They were all so nice.

In my opinion the American guitars are "nicer" than the Mexicn made instruments.

The fit and finish is a little better.
The electronics are higher quality.
The hardware is higher quality.

There is nothing wrong with the MIM's they look good and play very well, and the price is nice.

Still, if you can afford it, MIA all the way.

American strats are great stock. MIM's are very good, and can be great with some up grades. If I were planning on changing out pickups and tunners, ect and customizing it to my liking, I would by a Mexican. If you like the American in it's stock form I would buy American. As for me, I found a MIM I couldn't put down, bought cs 69's and locking tuners. I couldn't be happier. I went into the store to buy an American Strat. The more of them you play, odds are you will find one that talks to you. The MIM I bought was also Black, and that would normaly one of the last colors I would have picked. Go figure! Just shows you never know when you get looking at different guitars, they have personality and are different

Hi Guys,

Re: American versus Mexican; I recently bought a Mexican strat here in the UK for around £300 - this is the going price right now - a lot more than in the US!!. I heard it before I bought it and - not bad at all! It has MIM on the front of the headstock and the Ser No starts MZ80..... I was assured that this is a 2008 version.

It's made well, handles well but when you put something like an American De Luxe with Samarium pickups, or a Highway 1 through the same amp, there's really little comparison. The difference in sound is quite marked, the De Luxe is much more rounded and mellow, as is the Highway 1. So it really depends on the kind of sound you like and your budget!! I'm happy with mine as, right now, it gives me everything I want but as and when I get some spare cash I'm certainly going to upgrade to the American De Luxe!!! The problem is that over here that means finding around another £700!!!!!!
