+1 Probably the last amp you'll want or need.

Look for an amp using EL84 or EL34 power tubes, for one thing. You didn't say how much you wanted to spend, but if I had $1100 or more, I'd get the Budda. If you're looking under $500, I've been impressed with Blackheart amps.
Let us know what you end up with!

I just made an experiment I recently bought an extra Marshall avt20 amp, I use a boss gt8 multi effects processor and I plugged it to both of my avt20's in stereo with the tube gain to 9 oclock on both amps and I just cannot believe how amazing they both sound at the same time in stereo :)

There is no one or 2 amp that covers that much ground as you have listed.

those are pretty diverse artists out there.

You need to consider 3 main criterias

1) are you leaning towards a British sound or and American sound?

Most of the other amps fall within this spectrum. More or less on either side. That is why the best combination is a Marshall and a Fender for most.

2) How much power and volume can you afford?

There is no point falling in love with a Marshall 100W Jimi Hendrix anniversary model only to find out that you cannot play it at home without leveling 4 square blocks! Knowing that you need 5W or 15W or 30W can already narrow down your amp choice.

3) Tubes or solid state?

This seems like a no brainer but if you are into straight jazz you might opt for a transistor amp. Most rock and blues sound better with tubes.

Now with all that in mind, i have myself amassed a formidable amp collection with which to play both at home and in small gigs without hurting anyone's ears

1) Fender Blues Junior (15W, great for some clean tones)
2)Swart spacetone( 5W tube monster, the best tweed sound ever)
3) Blackstar HT5 (5W tube combo, Marshall like sound from former Marshall employees and design engineers)
4) 1973 Fender Champ( Great little practise amp)
5) Marshall JTM45 combo. (This is a killer but does not get used often enough due to the power and volume. Use it in a room and you go deaf even with ear plugs! This is a small auditorium gig material)

Hope this helps somewhat.

peace

I'm looking for a british sounding tube amplifier that's about 50w. I already have a practice amp, but if I'm going to find my guitar tone I need a quality tube amp. This is an investment and I'm thinking $1500 or lower. Actually I was looking up some reviews about this ENGL screamer and from what I heard it has fender cleans and can play metal. But they're not amps you would find in everyday stores so I can't try it out myself. Here are a couple of links:

I've played on number of hot rod and devilles. I love the classic Fender cleans, but they've all seemed to get very muddy, unfocused and "flubby" when you put any mid gain on them. I'll put just a low or mid gain on them, and I can't make out any note definition on the low strings.

Is that texas version different by chance? That would be very nice if it was.

No it is not different. The distortion is very muddy i will not lie. Thats the main reason i use the pedal I mentioned.

I'm looking to get a marshall amp for those mid - high gain sounds. :P

Maybe I just need to get a pedal for the fender then. That pedal, though the clean amp, makes it less muddy, eh? I have to try that.

I love the cleans. Dismissing any high gain, even a low-mid gain will sound a bit muddy. Although I think that Super 210 I have tends to sound a bit less-muddy that others I've played on.

I play Carvin amps so my vote is for either the Bel Air 2X12 or the X100B.
The Bel Air is 50 watts and the X100B is switchable 25/50/100 watts.

You really can't beat these amps for great tone and build quality at an outstanding price.

Try one and you'll end up buying it.

Tons of choices out there. I have an old Sound City 50 watt head with 2 half stacks "10's" I use for outdoor gigs. I just bought a new Fender Twin with two 12's I use at my Church. Awesome... I have a Blues Jr. and a Gdec I practice with. If I don't feel like dragging all the equipment around I just use a POD X3 LIVE.

I love the Twin...It has the best clean sound I've ever heard. Throw a little Reverb in with a delay in the effects loop and its Heaven on Earth. The Gain chennel is OK but like others have said it gets muddy the more you overdrive it. If I really need to make it scream I'll run a OD pedal in the front of the chain.

PS Kissed anyone's girlfriend lately?

Thanks for the info. I'm not looking at getting any new amp myself, but it's interesting. My Mesa Boogie is the only amp I'll ever need for any gig or recording session I'll ever do, and has all the tones I've had in my head for years and could never get out. But it's good to know that if I want to make my Super a little more usuable.

No kisses yet. But the weekend has not even begun yet!
