I understand that the import trem and the American trem have different string spacing. I want to get a back up to my HR62 without having too much of a difference in the bridge.

Which of the MIM Stratocasters (if any) use the American Vintage Tremelo?

I don`t think the parts are interchangeable. This stops someone from trying to pass off an MIM for a MIA. I had a problem with a new MIA Strat tremolo block, the whammy bar wouldn`t screw in. They tried to see if a block from an MIM would fit and it was totally different.

I know the parts aren't interchangable. I want a relatively inexpesive Strat to use as a backup, but I want the American Vintage Trem.

The only MIM I have seen with the AV Trem is the JV. They are pretty good, but I wnated to see what other options I have.

Not going to happen. You might be able to find something aftermarket, but I wouldn't trust it. Your only alternative is fitting (via drilling) a new one - I wouldn't do that either.

I have an American and a MIM that I use and the different bridges have never bothered me. I'll bet after you play one for a day or two it won't matter.

You can buy a body from warmoth or other companies and have it drilled for the american tremolo and then buy the american tremolo and use a MIM neck Im sure in the end it wouldnt cost a lot :)

Problem solved!!

A big box store by my house has the JVs for a huge discount. So cheap, I don't feel comfortable sharing it on the Fender website.

I will be trying one out today at lunch.

Although this is true, a really good luthier would be able to do it. My guy has replaced many vintage style mexican tremolo's with american 2 point tremolo's. Obviously unless you know what you're doing and have the right tools, you could permanently damage the body. But with wood, ANYTHING can be done if done right.

Wind,

I want the American Vintage tremolo – the six-holer.

Anyway, I played 4 JVs they all were horrible. They sounded good but the set ups were atrocious all of them had action of at least 1/4". That right there, is why I hat the Big Box stores.

Supposedly they will set one of them up and I’ll play it again on Saturday.

You can still do it, even if the 6 holes dont match up. You just have to do it CORRECTLY. You should be able to fill in the holes, and re-set them. Yeah, all the ones I played where terrible. I know that a proper set up makes the world of difference, but it left a really bad taste in my mouth about them. I ended up buying a Mexican because like I said, they guy who sold it had a bunch of work done to it by my luthier who is the best I've ever come across, so the quality is top notch. But I'm still going to rebuild the whole thing. By the time Im done, the only thing on it original will be the body, because I really like the heavy weight on it. BUt besides that, everything is being replaced.

The Powerhouse Deluxe MIM Strat uses the American Vintage six-hole bridge. It's exactly the same as the US version and is not interchangeable with the MIM Standard bridge. Besides that, it's a cool guitar - lots of tonal options.
