Hi, I've just got a 2008 American Standard Strat, lefty and I love everything about it...except one thing. The tremolo seems strange, in that it inserts into the block at a severe angle, such that it is angled way off the body once it's screwed in. I know that the bridge is supposed to floating, but even when the bridge is set at standard floating specs, the trem arm is way too far off the body of the guitar. I'm used to a mexi strat, where I could hold the trem arm while playing such that I could play songs like Stevie Ray Vaughan's Lenny or other songs. Is this a new design, or did I get a lemon as far as the trem block is concerned? thanks for the help.

Hello my friend,

I know exactly what you mean and YES it should be like that. It's going in ,in an angle. And YES, the arm is higher, far-er from the strings than in my friend's mexican 60th ann. strat. I've got also the 2008 Std. Am. Strat as you can see below and this is one of the first questions that i also made in this forum when i bought the guitar. But for sure you'll get used to it and you're gonna love it by the time. As everything else about your " baby" ...
Greetings from Greece...

You can bend it to suit your needs. Place the threaded portion in a vice with a towel or something to prtect the threads and apply some pressure using your hands, nothing else. Make sure you do this gently and continually check your progress as you go. You'll then have the bar exactly as you want it. I've done this on every tremolo I've ever had, from Fender styles to Floyd's.

Thanks guys, I'll look into bending that arm. I really do like the old vintage angle for the arm.

Just bend the arm to suit your taste.
Protect the threads, secure the threaded end in a vice
Bend away
Install on guitar and adjust as necessary

You can you several nuts threaded onto the arm to protect it while it is in the vice. When they are screwed tight, they will jam together and can completely protect the threaded portion of the arm.

I have adjusted/bent all of my trem arms to suit my taste. You can get it just exactly the way you want it. I also like the short arms from Callaham, but I didn't like the bend angle or the lack of upward tilt on the tip bend. No problem, a little bending and they became perfect.
