Im getting a spankin new strat soon, and i need some help.

I checked out the 60th anniversary american strat at GC and the american standard, and deluxe strat. I really like all of them. i was just wondering if the 60th anniversary is worth buying, or if the other ones are any better. I have heard very good things about the deluxe, but if the s-1 switch isnt that great, then i might check out the standard.

Thanks for the help guys.

oh yeah i'd really like one of the time machine strats and hot rod strats but i cant go for that budget, so im probably gonna end up with one of these

I own two American Standards and they are wonderful guitars. I would go for the 60th anniversary if your looking for the value of a guitar to potentially appreciate.

I agree with deepindigo the 60th Strat sound pretty good!

The Deluxe strats I've tried and dont like that much. For some reason they have the trem set to a floating point and therefore are less stable when it comes to tuning. If you get a Deluxe I'd recommend inserting another spring in the back of the trem system.

I've got a Highway One American, 60th, and I love it. I've had it a couple of weeks and I'm playing the cr$3%p out of it. It's a fluid guitar, with low action and jumbo frets. I had to back off my force some after a long time playing a Squire Strat and acoustic, since those fight back and this one is just smooth. Although Fender took down the highs off the Alnico single coils, Fender says, that must be relative to a vintage 50s sound. The highs are very sharp and clear, even through my current limited amp. Possibly, the mid range is a little beefier than it would have been. I play a lot of blues songs and blues jams and it's a delight to play and hear. The extra money for the American Standard or the American Deluxe wouldn't pay off for me. My guitar's not as expensive, but it's got the reverse polarity middle pickup, greasebucket bridge, the vintage tremolo with the look I like (I use left hand vibrato not trem) and some very nice thin finishes that let the wood show through. Mainly it's cosmetic things that the Highway One skips, and the dual point tremolo. Check out the Highway One ad in multimedia on the Fender site. GC's got some great deals on 60th Anniversary's in stock. Worked for me: I got a great value for a guitar I love.

Regardless what they have on the wall, I would recommend trying a few out and go for the one that plays and sounds the best to you. Every guitar is unique in these qualities.

Agreed. The way to find a good guitar is to play a lot of them in your price range. Don't limit yourself to just one "series". You may find a Highway 1 strat you just love more then an American Standard. You may find an Am Deluxe that you love and you'll wait a bit longer to afford it. There so much variation in feel within any series that it really takes trying a bunch to find the one that fits the bill. Don't buy an Am Standard just because so and so plays them or so and so says they are the best. Get the one that feels and sounds best to you.

Just got my Standard Strat HSS last weekend and I haven't been able to put it down. It feels so good in the hands and the sound is great. And it was very easy on the budget, too (even though it was a gift from my wife, but I picked it out).

oh guys i have another question. Theres an american deluxe with an ash body and an american deluxe with an alder body. The ash one is more expensive, but i was told that alder is more traditional. Anyone know why the ash is more expensive? i've always been told that alder is the way to get that classic strat tone.
