Im thinking about buying a prewired loaded pickguard with Buzkut pickups from torres engineering web site for my strat. I was just wondering if anybody has bought stuff from them or has delt with them because I heard some people have had bad experiences with them. I would also like to know if anybody has tried the Buzkut pickups and what they think. thanks.

Hey, Ninja. There was a time you were talking about doing one of Torres' "build your own amp" projects. Anything come of that?

I'm suddenly in a little doubt. Is Torres a British or American company originally?

Cheers - C

I'm under the impression that their british, i dont know why. It could well be the accent of the lady on the phone when i placed my order.

I'm getting a 5watt fender clone as a christmas present (that i pay for). Im on a small amp kick at the mo, especialy single ended jobs. All thanks to that watkins. When its done there will be detailed pics and maybe soundclips come early summer.

Dan Torres is an experienced amp modder from back in the day. He made his name teching EVH's plexis (the one with the brown sound). His shop is in San Mateo, CA. You can't go wrong with the stuff you get from that place; great stuff!

OK, now I'm curious. There is a fairly substantial amplifier company in Britain called Torres and it seems also the shop of Dan Torres in California. So what's the relationship between them? Anyone know the history? I'm not finding relevant information on www.torresamps.com ...

Cheers - C

Torres has shops in California and England:

http://www.torresengineering.com/info.html

that's kind of curious, eh? But cool!

I would guess that the English shop is that of a partner of Torres, maybe the guy who helps with the amp design.

Ah - now why couldn't I find that page? Thank you, Orvilleowner.

Though it leaves plenty unexplained: there's obviously a story behind those addresses. Curious indeed - WD Music for instance are only too keen to tell their history on both sides of the Atlantic...

You're welcome. I didn't search for the story of the two shops.

I have some Torres newsletters that were published about a decade ago. He gave quite a few interesting guitar electronics hints and wiring schemes. I think you have to pay for those things now!
