Welcome to the Forum.

Best advise I can give you is to go to your local Music Stores and try out all the guitars in your price range and find the one YOU like.

I got to agree with CAFeathers...You got to know before you go...only way to do that is spend some time playing them to see what fits your fancy.

Lance, I agree with everyone else but would like to recognize two important points that may be good to keep in mind. Two major differences between these models are 1. pickups, and 2. fretboard radius. Depending on the style of music you play these factors may be critical. For example, the 60 strat comes with vintage true single coils which are great for blues and clean tones but not ideal for heavy metal simply because that's not what they are optimized for (they will be noisy under high gain, they have a brighter tone). The deluxe strat's noisless pups are stacked humbuckers and will be quieter and slightly darker sounding.
On the second point, if you do a lot of bending (SRV etc.) a vintage radius (7.25" on the 60s strat) will require you to mantain a higher action in order to not fret out. This is the whole point of a flat radius such as that on the deluxe (12") or on Jackson/Ibanez guitars. A setup on a vintage radius is a very super stitious thing. If you play chords more than anything or don't bend very much the vintage neck may feel smaller, more comfortable. The standard for modern Fenders is 9.5 (MIM, MIA, Squier, Am. Vintage Hot Rod).
By the way, it is possible to achieve the best of both worlds - if you aren't familiar with the Classic Player strats check them out. The CP 60s has sweet custom shop 69 pups and a 12" radius and works with your price range.
Hope this helps. I'm a tech by the way and work on guitars for a living. The Fender Strat is in my opinion the most dynamic guitar out there.
