i was expiriencing some string buzz when hitting A and E bass strings unfretted(open).

To illeviate this i adjusted the truss slowly counter clockwise until after just about a quarter turn the buzz stopped.

Im still getting a buzz on both strings when fretted though.

on the low E it starts once i reach the 3rd fret and on the A it starts on the 5th fret.

i dont think more adjustment of the truss is required ( could be wrong though). also, string height on the 17th fret is roughly 1.5 - 3 mm. il get a stell rule and measure it accurately tomorrow. this would lead me to believe string height at the bridge is not an issue either, and could actually be a little high.

what do i do here?

its a new guitar, so a bit annoying that it doesnt come correctly set up from the factory.

Sounds to me like the string height might be a little low.

I would try setting it back to the Fender specs as provided in the support section of this website. This would give you a solid starting point. If the problem continues you can tweek your settings accordingly. I like to sneak up on it by making very small measurable adjustments. Allowing a little time for things to settle between each change.

If done correctly you will have your guitar sounding better than ever before and you'll be able to get it back there in the future.

Can you take it back to where you bought it and have them set it up?

Get the Stratocaster set up guide from this website and do the adjustment work YOURSELF!!! Your guitar will thank you!
