Hello fellow Stratocaster enthusiest! My 57 reissue (not the same as the commemorative strat in the other post) has an issue...
The issue is after years of use the tremelo bar broke off and im now stuck without it. My question is, how do i get the nub of the whammy bar out without replacing the whole bridge?Besides it being setup perfectly, its the original bridge and i just dont want to change it.

Any suggestions ?
Sonny

You can go to one of the larger hardware stores like Home Depot. They sell these tools that attach to a drill. There will be 2 pieces, the first will drill into the part that is broken off in the tremolo arm hole, it will make a threaded hole into that piece, then you attach the second part that will have an end like a screw, only the threads will be in reverse. You put the drill on reverse, it will go into the hole that was made in the broken part, and pull it right out. It's designed to pull out screws that have had their heads broken off, or are stripped so much that a normal philips or regular screw driver cant get a hold of and remove them. Ive never used them for what you need it for, but I have for broken screws, it works perfect. It'll take you less than a minute to pull out the part.

If you can tkae off that tremolo part you can get a new whammy bar. If you mind may i ask you how did you braek it?

If you can't do what windwalker9649 suggested, you may have to take it to someone who can drill it out and install a heli-coil.

this happens to me about every two months...I feel like I'm the only person left who still abuses their strat to the fullest extent. anyways I have gotten a feel for when the whammy is about to break, and replace the arm when I get that feeling. The first time it happened, i tried the method described above to no avail.

Ended up going on ebay and buying a 1986 trem block for about 36 US dollars.

my advice would be to keep new arms around. I'm going to take my old block, drill out a slightly larger hole and have a custom titanium arm manufactured...problem expensively solved :)
