I've heard that the Squier Standard, NOT affinaty or whatever. is BETTER then the MIM Fenders. Any truth? Imo, Japan ones are the best, agree or disagree?

Not in general, no.

The top of the line Japanese-made guitars are quite good. Perhaps the equal of MIA, but not all of the MIJ.

No, definitely not better ... because the MIMs are fantastic. But the Squiers are still VERY good. I have a played a bunch in recent months, and have come to the conclusion that the Squier Standards (and all models on up) are quite good. They have a Deluxe with a few more features than a Standard. But the real gems in the Squier line are the Classic Vibe and Vintage Modified guitars -- there are some nice instruments here that even well-established guitar players with many gits can really rip on and enjoy.

The gap between Squier and Fender for Strats is definitely noticable, but that gap shrinks considerably when you start talking Teles. Just my opinion...

Well, if I had known this video was gonna get so many views, I would have played louder and better. And, although you are specifically asking about a Standard Squier (this is an affinity), I thought I'd link to this since it is close to this topic. You will find some intersting discussions in the comments on it if you go to the video directly. I was just screwing around, and this just happens to be two guitars that I own. I had an MIJ Telecaster that I absolutely loved, it is in some of my earlier youtube videos. (sold it to pay some bills.) I play out with the MIM strat every weekend, and find myself tuning up a lot. I've cranked down the bridge, and that helped a little, maybe I'm not winding the string ends around the posts correctly or something (although it still has most of the original strings.) I've made a ton of videos with the Affinity, too - and although it is a beginner guitar, it's got a real nice spank to the pickups that is great for surf music, etc.
