It's a locking tremolo. I don't have all the details but it's a tremolo that you can go crazy on without getting your strings out of tune. It has a locking nut and bridge so it's much more stable than a normal trem.

You have to route out the body to install a Floyd Rose bridge. It allows you to pull up on the trem arm and raise the pitch. You can also do those crazy pinch harmonic dives like Dimebag.

Hi. I'm new here but I've been playing a while (40+ years). I have 2 old Kramers with the older Floyeds w/ fine tuners and really never have a problem with tuning or staying in tune. They're not too much trouble to set up for me. I really like them. Also have 2 American Strats, one with vintage 6 screw trem and one with the newer floating trem. I like both of these too. I guess it's all in what you want to do with it. With the regular flat mounted Floyed you shouldn't have to rout the body. I don't think you can go wrong with the Floyed if you like to use alot of whammy and dive bombing, however I would check it out to see exactly you will have to change to install it. I'm not an expert on it.
