Theres other ways to tell if a fender is a fender. I dont see the importance of a decal and am glad their hard to come by. Surely every fender fan must be cautious of falling foul of fake guitars.
Fender should redesign the logo subtley, maybe a hologram design within the logo and another on the neck heel with the hologram. Then if you need a replacement logo, send the neck to cali and have fender put it on. Seems the only honest way to have the service, it would cost a fortune though.

Gooseman, I'm traumatized just by hearing your story. My condolences, but I would have they guy finish the neck anyway. Escpecially if it an extra nice neck. yeah, it won't say Fencer, but that won't diminish it's playability.

Like the boys have been saying, Fender probably won't sell you one. Your guitar isn't a Fender.

You can make your own or find a supplier (many will make them uo to your specifications even if it infringes on copyrighted material)

I wouldn't put a Fender decal on a non Fender guitar. It just ain't right.

If you had wanted the headstock to say Fender, why didn't you just buy a Fender neck off Ebay? People parts out guitars all the time on that site.

Bought a REAL Mustang decal for my 6-string. The guy said he'd got it from Fender in the early 70's. If it was fake, he went thru a lot of trouble. It came in a fold over wax paper envelope, had 3 mimeographed pages included with, & 1 recommended using MEYERCORD (??) part B (or D or something) mixing it with 1 part to 10 with water. The chemical was butyl cellusolve that was the active in the MEYERCORD stuff. The decal it self was "reversed" and had the outline of the bottom of the headstock as a gude or application print on it. I'll put it on the Mustang as soon as I get some of the MEYERCORD part "whatver" cause I just finished painting the Mustang body (Crush orange like Fender offered in hte late 70's) & clear-coating it.

I know man, thanks. It does play nice. I have the neck amber and clearcoat to refinish it. If I ever get a decal ...it goes on top of the finish anyway. One problem though.
Since the incident, the neck won't take any relief. I tried to adjust the truss rod, but loosened all the way, it will only get to perfectly flat.
Any ideas? Anyone? It doesn't fret out, but it's a little buzzy.

the_factory_guy on Ebay does GOOD work. He's in Canada. A lot cheaper. $28 plus shipping (around $3 or so) for 3 of 'em. ALL the classic logos from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, & 90's.

If Fender really wanted to protect their trademark they would put chips in the neck and body. But you'd have to pay for it.

That would also help a lot with identifying stolen property.

Asking where to get a Fender decal on THE Fender website is like asking
the late Bruce Lee face to face for secret moves to knock him out in a fight OR asking BMW how to hotrod my toyota or Honda so that the acceleration matches a 6 series BMW coupe.. and the analogies go on

I am sorry for this blunt response but the fact is that Fender guitars are the MOST copied guitar designs ever in the history of electric guitars. Both owing from the fact that they were there first and for the simple fact that Fender guitars were designed to be modular and have parts replaced or modified without fuss. Would Fender give or sell decals readily without a 50 hour interrogation process in Guantanamo Bay?? i don't think so.

Now for the information you all want to hear. Yes there are "probably" a lot of NON licensed decal makers out there (both waterslide ones and the acrylic ones). You just have to search them out online. You will find them just as Fender does before they sue the $@! off someone. Gibson does the same.

My sympathies go out to REAL people with REAL Fender guitars needing a facelift or headstock repair but basing on people's responses, the route to getting a replacement decal seems more successful going the illegal way unless Fender puts in place a process or system which can satisfactorily authenticate a real Fender owner and guitar efficiently without fuss and delay. Look around you, there are thousands of so called custom guitar makers who can give you that "52 tele" or SRV strat or Clapton blackie reproduction.... You cant blame Fender for protecting their copyrights but like music piracy you cannot eradicate it 100% so its well up to any individual to decide what's black, white or gray.

Just my 2 cents worth. Btw i read my post twice just to make sure there is nothing that can implicate me in any lawsuit. For the record, I do not encourage copies , fakes or duplication of any Fender designs or logos. Nor do i encourage restoration of Fender guitars through illegal sources.

Yes i am a proud owner of several GENUINE Fender guitars.

peace

"If you built it why do you want it to have a Fender decal? You can get a Water slide kit and design and make your own slide using a ink jet printer and the paper and liquid supplied in the kit. Name it or call it what ever you want you built it not Fender ."

Wow! A voice of good old horse sense and reason!

Fender is heavily invested in it's dealer network system. Go through a respected Fender dealer, preferrably a full line dealer. It used to be that a registered Fender dealer had to authenticate the piece, and put in the request for the decal. It's made difficult on purpose. It weeds out a lot of wannabes and non customers, and protects the copyrite portion of the deal. Here's another thing. In my experience, when someone lost a decal, they had done something really BAD to their guitar or something infinitely stupid. Not everytime, but damn near everytime! I gave these types a piece of my mind about caring for their instrument long before I'd help them order the decal. Fender never refused me ordering a decal, because I qualified the customer for them properly. They seemed to respect that. In those days it meant my word to Fender based on my research and a serial number submitted.

I'm supposed to be getting a new neck for my powerhouse MIM strat. I went thru my dealer. That was back before thanksgiving that fender said they'd replace it. Still nothing yet. I'm not really sure they care and they take their sweet time doing what ever they want. But I guess when you've got a name like fender, and everyone wants one, why should you be concerned with the 1% of people like us that are having issues!? Yes, they should but apparently from all i've read, they are not. Shame. Seeing how in the last two months I've bought 1 fender and 2 ibanez...my next guitar was going to be a fender tele, but it's looking like i'll be moving to another brand on that purchase as well. :(

Good luck!

BTW, in the meantime waiting for fender to replace my neck, I bought a used one on ebay that was from the same model, just 10 years older. It plays great now! As soon as they produce the new neck, I'll probably sell it off on ebay.

You did everything right. It's up to your dealer to put pressure on Fender for proper timelines. My guess is that the dealer didn't make enough $$ on a Mexican Strat for HIM to care very much about that timeline! FMIC only reacts to input from it's dealer network.

I don't get it. You want a guitar that looks just like a Fender. So you buy Fender looking parts supplied by aftermarket manufacturers and assemble them.

But then, you don't want anybody to know that its not a real Fender, so you want a decal that says Fender on it, so everybody thinks you popped for a real Fender. But somehow, you don't think a real Fender is as good as the one you assembled yourself.

Ignoring the legality of this, does anybody else see the ethical problem here, not to mention a loyalty problem? Fender makes really good guitars. Buy one, play it and enjoy it. If you don't want what they build, for God's sakes, don't assemble one and put their name on it because you are too embarassed that somebody might think you are playing a no name guitar that you built yourself - which is exactly what you did! And then, post that y
